@squatsons That could be because SU 57 hasn't flown in anything but a stand off role - if that. This SU 57 is supposed to be a 5th gen fighter, but it isn't actually a stealth plane and virtually no one wants to buy the thing (5 to Algeria is all I know about).

no one underestimated the Iranians. This conflict is completely predictable, and Iran was not an easy target but it is losing; not winning. This was about behavior, not regime change. That is what Israel wants. Not the US. Only Israel wants the war to continue. But this won't happen as we are about to cease operatons with an agreement being developed as we speak.

They have been prepared for this war for a very long time. Building up defenses in secret underground tunnels. The US, forced by Israel to attack underestimated the Iranians, this was meant to be a day or two strike operation. But the IRGC hit back, managing to erase decades of US installations and close the Strait of Hormuz.

There just isn’t a good military lever to force the strait open. You can try to completely collapse Iranian capabilities with air strikes (highly unlikely), you can commit to a sustained naval mission in the strait itself (dangerous), or… go all in.
