internet has mythologized this scene into meta commentary on storytelling in games but doom 2016 is even more guilty of this than its sequels. there’s segments in 2016 where they literally lock you in a room and force you to listen to exposition for minutes on end. play the game.

Sometimes still think about how Doom 2016 had doomguy destroy a thing that was trying to explain lore and story to him, rejecting the very idea of exposition and lore in a doom game and then the next 2 games just decided "you know what? this game needs more lore"

The melodrama in both the other films works a lot better for me, 2 feels orientated around more standard spectacle in a way that doesn't work as well imo. Molina is the strongest element but his side never ties in well with the main narrative as much as the film thinks it does
