@wonderingBit @RicFlairsUncle @PopBusterZ @Grand_design0 @JordanSchachtel The move on Kiev is a diversion and a faint in my opinion Russia will not try to take that city, it will encircle the Ukrainian military deployed against the separatists. twitter.com/PurcellGregory…
Gregory Purcell@PurcellGregory

@AngieSkys Let me rephrase this, there might be 1000 Russian VDV at Anotov airport and they are diverting 10's of thousands of Ukrainian troops in their direction. Main axis of Russian attack is linking up the troops at Kharkiv and the troops at Metropol.

@Hi5FromBriGuy @milkchaser @ggreenwald My portfolio did load up on US oil & gas who has its production in the west and a western fertilizer company. Because Iran now fully controls the Strait of Hormuz and the US military is unlikely to change this. US & world consumers lose biggly.

@PurcellGregory @milkchaser @ggreenwald They control nothing, lmao. Random blind-firing at its Gulf neighbors and threatening the Strait only enhances the U.S. position, militarily and economically. They are making the U.S. the supreme oil and gas superpower of the world.

@ggreenwald Inapt analogy, Glenn. How many bases are we defending in Iran? Zero. Where is the Iranian Navy? Where are its missile factories and launchers? Where are its leaders?

@AliceFromQueens My guess it that number gets hit six to twelve months from now, after the Iranian hawks start blaming him for losing the war.

There are, broadly speaking, three NATO-skeptical positions on the American right just now: —Russia is fren, actually (minority position) —Russia may not be fren, but it’s Europe’s problem —Russia is not fren, it’s our problem too, but Europe needs to pull its weight (however that works) Rhetoric of the type Vance advanced (ha) at Munich is aimed mostly at the latter two positions (whatever may be said about the first). But it hits a snag so obvious people walk by it: The EU has been uninterested in rearming not because it expects America to protect it (nobody is -that- trusting), but because it has been defecting to Russia for 20+ years (via its energy policy alone, nevermind its frequently demonstrated -dis-interest in Ukraine), and American protection allows its leaders to keep up the charade. And the real existential threat that its leadership class perceives is that that mask will slip.
Martin Skold@MartinSkold2

Yes and no. Until it went critical, the old “Americans in, Russians out, Germans down” canard made a bit of sense. It’s just that Nordstream (among other things) let the Russians in while demanding also that we participate in the charade. We could do that for a while, too - but not for long. The problem now is how to contain Russia without it, because it’s tough to say we don’t care about an Eurasian super-coalition pointed at us.

@aimeeterese The Iranians have dictated that they are talking to no one from this administration.

I think it would be a huge mistake to allow the Iranians to dictate which members of the administration are to negotiate with them.

@White_Shadow81 @AliceFromQueens @abaddonic2 Because of this war my portfolio is 100% long oil & fertilizer (yesterday I bought $CF at a steep discount because of Trumps apparent TACO) but the thing is going short oil is betting both Trump & Iran chicken out. I think oil is going to $200 this summer.

@AliceFromQueens @PurcellGregory @abaddonic2 Like the one thing that seems to dictate his action more than anything is the bond market and they are getting absolutely juicy right now, he’s going to do something and it’s not going to be just a Truth post, it’s either more leverage or a lot less, I suspect. Place your bets.

@AliceFromQueens We can not make an unconfirmable bet; but if Biden was asked what years he was President, I would bet Joe Biden gets the years wrong.

@ArthurHayw34890 @owenjonesjourno The West has been in control of Middle East oil since 1920 when the UK & France colonized the place after WWI and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Yes Iran wants to kick the West & Israel out of the middle east. And I don't think Trump is going win this war

@PurcellGregory @owenjonesjourno Iran has been attacking the US for 47 years. It has key objectives, to destroy Israel, dominate Arabia and the west and bring down capitalism by controlling oil supply. This should've been done decades ago. The West has a right to defend itself. Iran could have just stopped.

@ArthurHayw34890 @owenjonesjourno I would say we have been the bully, we have a history of destroying nations who dare propose selling oil in a currency which is not US dollars. If Iran successfully stands up to the US then the world order has been changed. Trump war should be called Operation Epic Mistake

@PurcellGregory @owenjonesjourno See where you're going with that arguement. But, when the bully threatening neighbours with violence for 47 years gets well and truly whacked, there is usually a period of reflection. Neighbours then arm themselves and the bully finds reprisals become so dangerous they desist.

@ArthurHayw34890 @owenjonesjourno Iran has the ballistic weapons to shut down Saudi Arabia's east west pipeline if they choose. The old reality was the US dictated who could sell oil from the Gulf; the new reality is Iran can dictate that, unless the US can open the Strait and stop Iran's missiles.

@PurcellGregory @owenjonesjourno The Strait may be as big a problem for Iran as it is for everyone else. There may be a route for oil that by-passes it permanently. Remember Iranian oil has to pass that way as well.

@owenjonesjourno This strengthened Iran, will it have a navy and or an airforce? The ones they had seem a little battered. Asking for somone who thinks stronger means actually stronger.

ISN'T Iran successful in creating massive security vacuum? NATO has withdrawn its advisory personnel from Iraq and relocated them to Europe, while U.S. forces are reportedly executing a, temporary 24-hour truce to withdraw troops from key bases like Victoria Base near Baghdad. While trying to push the idea again and again for "Boots on the Ground" . The irony is that by withdrawing from Iraq, the U.S. and NATO are losing the very "buffer" and logistical hubs. x.com/ARKcurrent/sta…
