@PurpleKoolaid70 @DomClare The fans demand mediocrity and a lottery ticket shot to maybe win big. I am one. Give Minnesota fans, gophers football results and they are fine. Don’t you dare take some lumps to build something long term. Give us a year of Favre or Cunningham! Ponder sucked, so never again!
English

@NoHoHankSkol_ @DomClare Whose fault is that. JJ can’t stay on field and coach has to keep his job. Jefferson is not putting up with a qb that overthrows him by 10 rows up in stands. If JJ kicks ass in preseason and looks ready that’s another thing
English

@DomClare Anyone though that thinks 10 games is useful is dumb
Obviously you want it to look better but 10 games is not a useful point to analyze anything
English

@MatthewColler I don’t get all of the reporters who are all over Rob’s jock? Tell me who he’s drafted? Do you love the scouts who are responsible for providing Kwesi the long list of shitty draft picks. Vikings owners have no clue. Why not hire the janitor cause he’s nice
English

From the owner's meetings, Mark Wilf gave some interesting details to our beat crew about the GM search. Read them here, along with his answer to my question about whether there would be a structure change when a new GM is hired

@laplante71 MN fans don’t know how to cope. They wanted nothing to do with Larson and now that he’s hired, they have to talk themselves into how he’s the greatest and the only reason he missed the playoffs 3 straight yrs cause of lack or resources. Can’t make it up
English

Really? Hockey is still the No. 1 sport at SCSU. They are currently doing upgrades on the Herb. They have contract with Twin Cities TV. They keep producing NHL talent (Posch, Gross). Maybe the only reason they’ve missed the tournament is because of the head coach now at U. 🤷🏼♂️
Dan Myers@DanMyers
@thoen88 Larson was the only thing keeping that program afloat, according to numerous people I’ve talked to. The NCHC is a tough league, very ebb and flow (see Duluth the last few years). Larson is a solid hire for the Gophers, but the future is … bleak … In St. Cloud with him gone.
English

@thorku Seriously stop with Harrison and Hopkins. Stop with the old guys. Vikes fans need to get over the glory days. Hitman is not the same and Vikes need to get YOUNG
English

@lind2428 @MNHockeyStar Quality of living is probably a million times better in Minnesota. Alum is a joke. Has nothing to do with him staying. He might prefer Kalamazoo, but drinking from a keg for 4 years as teenager is not why he’s staying.
English

@MNHockeyStar I would say probably not. For a few reasons. If you like where you are. I’m sure the cost of living is cheaper in Kalamazoo. He is less likely to ever be fired, so long term pay is longer, and already can recruit great players like Bump last year.
English

@MSPAthletics While that’s nice, winning is what matters. Coaches have to be more than a buddy to a player. Bellichick won 6 super bowls and by all accounts was a complete dick. Parcells total dick. Bobby Knight dick. Leslie Frazier nice. Bad team
English

@GopherHole What’s Faber gonna say. Cmon. No played is gonna trash a coach. He might be a great coach, but nobody will look you in the eye and say he’s the best option.
English

@AScaryShark @tuckerhart00 @RussoHockey @nytimes Hello…is anyone home? That’s the point. Bob was fired cause he couldn’t produce when it mattered and they hired his clone. His best years with Motzko’s players. We’ll see
English

@PurpleKoolaid70 @tuckerhart00 @RussoHockey @nytimes How did that go for you? About as well as SCSU. What is your point? We have better playoff success. You can cope all you want Blowpher fan. Dont celebrate when you become relevant again. You did you want him.
English

University of Minnesota hiring Brett Larson to coach men’s hockey team: Sources nytimes.com/athletic/artic… via @NYTimes
English

@SK0LPolls @RussoHockey @nytimes I don’t know all the names but I do know the schools that are consistently good. Maybe if you can’t get Denver, Quinnipeac, Michigan or Michigan States HC, then how about a long time assistant? Be nice to have east and Canada recruiting ties
English

@PurpleKoolaid70 @RussoHockey @nytimes Think he’s the best of the options out there
Potulny - not a great run @ northern Mich
Barr - worse win % than Larson. Lot of eastern ties
Darby - no college experience
Raboin - very early in career
Not sure who a better option would be Maybe WMU coach but @ his Alma mater
English

@SK0LPolls @RussoHockey @nytimes Larson might turn out ok. Might is the keyword. Gophers are hockey history and a blue chipper. The chances of this hire backfiring is a lot greater then him succeeding
English

@PurpleKoolaid70 @RussoHockey @nytimes I’m a UMD guy, he was the first person I would’ve called if Sandelin retired.
Mankato is in a B level league. St. Cloud would be in the same situation if in the CCHA, winning or contending for championships
English

@AScaryShark @tuckerhart00 @RussoHockey @nytimes Motzko took them to the title game in NCAA and Larson did with Motzko players.
English

@tuckerhart00 @RussoHockey @nytimes He won the NCHC regular season title and the Frozen Four. Motzko never won in the playoffs at UofMN
English

@RussoHockey @nytimes This is such a good hire in my opinion.
His record is significantly better than Potulney or Barr at a job with very little in terms of resources.
He’s going to be a problem for the rest of Minnesota and the B1G
English

@detnr19 @Buccigross Alum doesn’t mean shit. That’s just a 4 yr place you go in your youth and drink. Western Michigan is a novelty. The U has history that Western Michigan couldn’t come close to touching
English

@Buccigross He just won a natty and is a 1 seed again and an alum. Minnesota would have to make a record setting contract to even get him thinking about it
English

I'm surprised Minnesota hasn't called Western Michigan's Pat Ferschweiler for the Head Coach opening. Born in Minnesota. Family there. Clearly an elite President, GM, Coach snd player developer which is the #cawlidgehawkey job. And he's in his prime.
English

@JacobBecker0034 @MNState0fHockey @RussoHockey The argument will be he was affiliated enough as an assistant already that this move is not a change. Even if not fair to May, you’d expect a program like the U to go after a blue chipper from the programs like Wisconsin or others that have been winning
English

@MNState0fHockey @RussoHockey Give the guy a chance he’s won every where he’s been (Farmington, Blake, Augsburg, U18 USA, he was Director of OPs for Gopher men’s) Very likable, he’ll be a great recruiter and someone everyone can get behind.
English

Gophers AD Mark Coyle interviewed 2 college coaches this weekend, including St. Cloud State’s Brett Larson, and Hartford Wolf Pack coach Grant Potulny. So one mystery college coach. Hearing there may be one other candidate interviewed, too. Usually Coyle acts fast and there’s tons to do (portal opens after Frozen Four, determining which players he’ll keep, which are leaving), so I bet he has a men’s hockey coach decision soon. Coyle is speaking for the first time since the coaching changes later today to introduce Greg May as the women’s coach.
English

@realmnsportsfan @DWolfsonKSTP What a bunch of sloppy reporting and throwing shit at the wall to see if it sticks. JJ has ZERO leverage. How many years did Rodgers and Love sit on bench? Oh yeah, 3 years. This is nothing new. JJ is not close to ready
English

Whoa, @DWolfsonKSTP just reported the first hint that "those close to JJ McCarthy" may be hoping the Vikings trade him...
"As of this weekend, I haven't heard specific trade buzz. [But] do I sense that those close to JJ would welcome a change of scenery? I wouldn't dismiss that." -- @SKORNorth minnesotasportsfan.com/minnesota-viki…
English

@JacksonRKruger @BenGoessling Schneider came from Green Bay and so did Wolf. Both were just in Super Bowl. Vikes going into this draft with same trash scouts and no GM. Wilfs need to stop dicking around and hire a real GM that can draft
English

@PurpleKoolaid70 @BenGoessling Get a guy from a Super Bowl winning team?
Oh, you mean like Kwesi?
He came from 5x SB Champ San Francisco
How did that turn out?
English

Ryan Van Demark’s $4.2 million deal with the #Vikings was just out of reach of what the Bills were willing to fit under their salary cap (the RFA tender was $3.52M). Vikings added the swing lineman they wanted with a savvy bit of pricing from Rob Brzezinski and crew.
English

@JacksonRKruger @BenGoessling He kept stats for Niners and spent a 2 years with his buddy at Cleveland as VP. He was a diversity hire by the Vikes. Was never qualified. There is no flipping way Rob gets the job. He has no track record like Kwesi.
