Our third SciPy keynote speaker works at petabyte scale. Dr. Joseph H. Kennedy is a Staff Scientist at the Alaska Satellite Facility and Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. A computational glaciologist by training, he now leads global-scale remote sensing and Earth-observing data processing campaigns — including the ITS_LIVE global glacier velocity project and HyP3, ASF's on-demand processing system. His specialty is bridging scientists and software engineers, building cloud and HPC platforms that turn raw satellite data into analysis-ready insights for the scientific community. Our second keynote speaker at SciPy 2026 approaches science and technology from a fascinating angle. Amber Case is a design advocate, researcher, and author of Calm Technology — and founder of the Calm Tech Institute. She's a Fellow at MIT's Center for Civic Media and Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, and received the Bell Labs Claude Shannon Innovation Award. Her work explores how humans interact with technology, and how design can reduce cognitive load rather than create it — a question that feels increasingly urgent as our tools grow more powerful. Meet one of our SciPy 2026 keynote speakers. Thomas Caswell is the Project Lead for Matplotlib and staff scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory's NSLS-II, where he develops data acquisition and analysis software for x-ray science. He's been using scientific Python for over 15 years, started contributing to Matplotlib with a single character change in 2012, and hasn't stopped since. He's also a PSF Fellow and core contributor to h5py. Register now: hubs.la/Q04nqx-G0
