The Pitt discourse ended a bit ago and it's probably for the best that it's gone but I feel compelled to say every person Robi was a shit head to this season he backed up in some decision in the last few episodes of the season. He's a critical ass hole but he trusts his people.

@ZealousSeraphim yeah but Eva doesnt subvert Mecha it brings it back to tradition just with a edge lord bent to it. Gundam is more of a subversion of the genre and Eva was a bringing Mecha back to form.

In my eyes though, something that subverts a genre does so out of love for the blueprint that it’s subverting. It’s trying to explore it from different angles so that no stone is left unturned. It’s why for example, I don’t think a series like Hunter x Hunter is a critique of battle Shonen even if it subverts.

I finished the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam. I definitely feel like the first episode of Evangelion intentionally drew parallels to this episode. It’s the same scenario but also the polar opposite. So this is like the thesis to Eva’s antithesis.

@Pyllgrim @ZealousSeraphim Ultraman isn't mecha and Ideon came after Gundam. I don't think there's much super robot dna in Eva really. It's more Tomino style mecha and Tokusatsu.

@ZealousSeraphim Eva isnt a deconstruction of OG mecha it is a love letter to them. it is more true to OG then its contemporaries. The 60s and 70s mecha are really great and you should definitely check them out.

Well that’s a big thing of what I’m interested in. Eva is what got me interested in the mech genre. Will more specifically Eva and the Gurren Lagann together. I’ve seen people say Eva is a deconstruction, and it naturally makes me interested in the construction. Especially when Gurren Lagann is very clearly a love letter to the whole genre. I don’t want to call Eva a deconstruction for sure though, the word gets overused and so I prefer to avoid it. Lmao

@trevrockone @ZealousSeraphim Tomino unquestionably worked on OG mecha and therefore took reference from them and you said that eva was influenced by Idion and ultraman (OG Mecha) then you are agreeing with my statement. and Gundam is Real Robot and Eva is Super Robot so they took different approaches to it
