@AirCactus500 @suni_code tbh, these aren't very useful anymore. But it used to be that this was the best way to isolate a variable's scope. Modern js syntax has mostly solved this issue, but a few use cases remain.

@woniaguy mate. Tastes like grass but I'll admit I'm pretentious enough to like it. It's good grass.

@richardrohlin The solution (to me) seems obvious and it's to bring back old systems of apprenticeship (and maybe even guilds if it comes down to it) but it would require reworking our whole education system and the powers that be are unwilling to do that even if it would be good for everybody.

I haven't said a lot about AI because I have mostly been trying to pay attention to what is happening. I somewhat uniquely have one foot in the education and humanities world and another one in the tech and data science world. Obviously the reactions to AI and the rate of adoption is totally different in those two different sectors. But one thing is very interesting to me, and that is the question of apprenticeship. A friend who is at a major industry conference right now just sat in on a panel with several CEOs. They're all talking about the way that entry-level jobs are being completely eliminated by AI and how this is causing additional strain and workload for the mid-tier. But the problem of course is that without those entry-level jobs, there's no clear path to identifying who should be hired in a mid-career position at a company, or how institutional knowledge will be developed and retained. If AI really causes a major industry crisis I think it will be one of apprenticeship.

@TheJ9747 Friends take effort, but it's easier to meet people. One of my best friends in the world is the person I sat next to in Chemistry. 14 years ago. But that took a lot of effort and a lot of keeping in touch. Treat them the way you want to be treated.

@Knightly_Hist Honestly, I think it's because the only place that still lets the autists who care about things like "accurate armor" and "medieval tactics" (i.e. me) write and direct is Japan.

The Late Knight Show@Knightly_Hist·
My favourite moment has got to be when a Knight commands some men as arrows glance off his (very well drawn) armor. As the English are pulling long shots, it's completely ineffective against plate armor but still makes the lesser armored soldiers duck. Not bad.
The Late Knight Show@Knightly_Hist

Every now and then Japan graces us with fairly good depictions of medieval warfare for no reason. I still remember when "Maria The Virgin Witch" came out and it showcases fairly spot on armor, actual medieval fashion, formation fighting and even competent technique.

@Nanomachines999 @Acolyte83349490 @FeelsGuy2003 I'm not inserting anything. Both of our churches believe that an lack of lawfulness can make some otherwise efficacious action ruinous. It's you whose looking at the words and actively refusing to read them. These exceptions are narrow & only apply if no Catholic is available

All “orthodox” sacraments are illicit, they do not give salvation. If you spent more time reading up on what the Faith teaches and less time defending jews on Twitter, you’d know this.
Rod Dreher@roddreher

Hammer away, dear. Amazingly enough, I didn't leave Jesus. By Catholic lights, I didn't really leave the Church. You've only been Catholic for under two years, but if you dig deeper into your church's teaching, you'll see that Catholicism recognizes Orthodox orders and sacraments

@Nanomachines999 @Acolyte83349490 @FeelsGuy2003 "A certain communion in sacris, and so in the Eucharist, 'GIVEN SUITABLE CIRCUMSTANCES AND THE APPROVAL OF CHURCH AUTHORITY, IS NOT MERELY POSSIBLE BUT IS ENCOURAGED'" Please read. It's not: "Orthodox sacraments good" It's basically "It's fine if you're dying and have no options"

@Nanomachines999 @Acolyte83349490 @FeelsGuy2003 You on the other hand are assuming valid necessarily means "non-sinful" or even "good for salvation". Neither of our churches believe that at all. A lack of lawfulness can absolutely make participation in a valid sacrament a mortal sin.

@Acolyte83349490 @Nanomachines999 @FeelsGuy2003 Sure. What it doesn't mean is (necessarily) "effective for salvation". For example, receiving the Eucharist unworthily is still a valid eucharist but isn't effective for salvation per St. Paul You people are assuming that licity is a minor detail. It's actually a grave matter.

@Nanomachines999 @FeelsGuy2003 That's not what valid means. Illicit acts are still gravely sinful. They're not "excused" just because your schismatics. Which is kinda the point. Read up before you talk about what you don't know. It keeps you from looking ignorant.

@FeelsGuy2003 That's not what your own church teaches. EO sacraments are valid and therefore, efficacious for salvation.

@Johnpaulmcrae83 @ArchangeloRom @KhanFormBias @Talonthepapist Ok, but you realize you have the same annulments even if you play logomachy rather than actually deal with the issues. Let's say a couple comes in seeking a divorce only for investigation to turn out that the priest who "married them" was a fraud. Would a divorce be granted?

If there are children involved how is the outcome different beyond just different titles? Ya'll are as bad as the mormons with your stupid mental gymnastics to excuse family destruction. Ya'll have enough skittles, troons, women priests, feminists, eccumanisim, etc for many not to take you schismatics seriously. Said my piece. Enjoy you arbitrary line blurring. I really dont care.
