Enrique isn’t coming…so he’s the viable coach with the most credentials. If they prefer Cesc or Honess fine, but they’re NOT more qualified

@mhartg1 @BackseatsmanLFC @justyn_lfc Well in year 1 they were centurions so a drop off was natural…unless your name is Pep or Klopp. Xabi averaged 90 pts for his time there. You might not want Xabi and that’s fine, but you can’t say he’s not elite!

@Mobyhaque1 @HendrickD82 They can only mean Jota but of course they won’t say that outright. Every other “mitigation” e.g injuries, Salah declining, refereeing decisions etc is just normal football adversity that every club and coach goes through.

Hilarious that Josh and the like are now down to "mitigation" and nothing else to explain Slot being fucking atrocious this season and the team being atrocious for 15 months.

@mizgans Your last line hits the nail on the head. And that is the most terrifying part. If Slot stays it says we’re no longer a data driven club cos there is no data that supports the idea that he should continue…and not hiring Alonso will only be because of ego…dark times ahead.

@Q15analytics Well Slot delivered a 91 pt rate for the first 34 league games last season.
If we remove the last 4 games of last season (post title win), he is going at a 77 pt rate (just over 2 ppg) for a 70-game sample size in PL as a LFC manager.
I want change, but I doubt the club does.

Believe it or not, Alonso was Liverpool's first choice when Klopp left. He rejected them to stay at Leverkusen & eventually go to Real Madrid (a job he waited for).
Maybe, #LFC fans have forgotten that rejection?
Even if Slot stays, I am sure the club has other managers in line.

@mizgans The idea might be similar but the competence and execution levels are vastly different. The real world is never ideal. Coaches need to be able to adapt. Alonso has delivered a 90pt run rate in every job…Slot has been delivering a 62pt run rate for 16 months now…that’s his level

@Q15analytics It also matters that his overall footballing idea isn't far from what Slot wants to do (in an ideal world).
So would the board bite on their ego to call a guy, who rejected them, knowing his football isn't too different from the guy who is in charge now & has proven last season?

Striker: big, physical, gets on the end of high value chances
Wingers: fast, direct; one is more of a lock pick and one is more of a roadrunner
Midfielders: one advanced creator, one b2b carrier/box crasher/dueler, one controller/sweeper
Full backs: flyer on the lock pick winger side, standard/distributor on the roadrunner side
CBs: one spear/carrier into space, one shield/progressor
GK: cromulent with the ball at his feet, one of pure shot stopping or box presence is a standout trait

@johngibbonsblog @exiledpep137 This is just outcome based analysis. Slot has been Liverpool level for only 6 months. From Jan 2025 we’ve been a broken team that has slowly got worse and he has no idea how to fix it.

📊 Liverpool under Arne Slot The international break seems like a good time to revisit this. In the past two months since the original post, pts/match have been slightly below performance level relative to xG differential. What hasn't changed is that the entire season, Liverpool has operated at about the level of a fringe UCL or solid UEL team - the 5th best in the league. At this point it is just the reality of the situation.

I just don’t agree with this. I personally think we should get Alonso in but I also think it’s very possible Slot wins the league (again) with better players next year

Stockholm is remarkably walkable. At one point we were walking somewhere and we needed to check a map. It was such a relief not to have to think about the phone being stolen. In London we always duck into a doorway before checking a phone on the street.
