EuroTrip was released 22 years ago. “Scotty Doesn’t Know” was written as a throwaway joke, but it became a real hit. Matt Damon agreed to cameo because he was friends with the writers and filming nearby in Prague, and he showed up with a shaved head.

Is 1400 SAT like being the tallest midget? Seems a little high for State U but isn't really going to cut much ice at a Top 50 school.

@Empty_America Everyone I know who has gone to these colleges has been wealthy It’s a Westchester/Conn socially acceptable prestige substitute if you don’t get into an Ivy

Colgate and Hamilton are mysterious colleges. Both located in middle of nowhere towns in deepest Upstate NY, minimal national profiles. But the SATs of the kids are just a hair below Ivy tier. Why do kids who could go places with real name recognition select these colleges?

@TheLaurenChen I have no idea who that guy is, but I worked two jobs for 5 years, finally decided to go back to school full time while working full time, got a degree and got a good job working at an engineering firm. Single dad, and barely getting by paycheck to paycheck. It’s not all excuses

The world's best Indian restaurant, Gymkhana, opens at ARIA this week. For the first time ever, the Vegas Strip will have Michelin-starred Indian dining. It's arguably the biggest culinary event of the year. Here's what the restaurant looks like inside...

Agreed… the only thing i enjoy more from big races is the merchandising at the Expo, everything else it feels overwhelming to me, lines, lines , lines… a logistics nightmare. I enjoy traveling to small races in Japan for my serious attempts, i enjoy the traveling and here small races have an incredibly efficient organization nothing else can compare imo, i can just concentrate on my racing routine and my running and everything is much more manageable. Going for it this Sunday in Okayama!

Unpopular opinion. Small(ish) marathons are better if you’re thinking about performance. Logistics easier. Start isn’t crowded. Low-stress. Big city energy is great but standing on a start line for 45–60 minutes pre-race is NOT.

@shagbark_hick This is like the third time in recent days you've mentioned driving. Drove to check out border property, drove by other house, drive to Quebec. Have you gone back to the automobile lifestyle?

This is, for the record, also visible in a long list of other dimensions, too. In Quebec, people seem more educated, more well-spoken, healthier, less 'defeated'. They smile more. The women are prettier, the towns are not as haggard as their American analogues mere miles away. Yet it comes at a cost. Too 'orderly' to really go "balls to the wall" -- permits for everything, overtaxed, abysmally-low fertility rate, insane political problems, crisis-level housing costs. Eloi and the Morlocks -- pick your poison. Or don't choose, and live directly on the border on the USA side, picking and choosing the best of both sides. Drive 20 minutes to get pate; come home to your mortgage-free house full of guns. Can't beat border living.
𝙷𝚒𝚌𝚔𝚖𝚊𝚗@shagbark_hick

Of all the contrasts between NY and Quebec one sees living along the border, the gastronomic difference is the most stark. On the USA side: gas station chili dogs, thick greasy diner gravies (and people with physique to match). On Quebec side, it's fresh greens, local farm goat cheeses, excellent wines, leek soups, all fresh and light and gourmet (and again, the people have physiques to match). Go out for dinner in Fort Covington NY, and then go out for dinner in Saint-Anicet QC and see what I mean... Two EXTREMELY different food cultures, side by side, that basically do not mix (except for things like Labatt Blue and poutine). And an obesity rate that corresponds -- 40% in Franklin County NY and 24% in Montérégie, Quebec. The "line" is very real.

From 1951 to 1955, this modest 1,400 sq ft. home in Midland TX contained two different future Presidents of the United States, and a future Governor of Florida. Society was incredibly "level" in those days, and that is what we actually miss. Almost no one was really rich.
