A comparison of how alJolani's regime handled protests outside the UAE embassy, protests against Israel, and protests by Alawites
We put together this report in response to claims by some pro-HTS activists who have been falsely and unethically arguing that alJolani allowed the recent protests outside the UAE embassy and against Israel as a sign of openness and respect for free expression. They even pointed to what they describe as his “tolerance” of Alawite protests in WesternSyria and Christian protest in Damascus as evidence.
In reality, Alawite protesters faced repression, violence, and persecution in three stages:
First stage:
HTS-led General Security forces immediately moved to disperse the protests using armored vehicles and tanks, and opened fire on protesters. This resulted in dozens of deaths and many injuries caused by live ammunition. In addition, armed mobs of Sunni civilians were brought in with armored vehicles to help suppress the protests.
Second stage:
The following day, armed groups from the Sunni community attacked Alawite neighborhoods in Latakia, vandalizing shops and cars, while GS militias stood by and provided protection.
Third stage:
Over the next several days, there were widespread arrests targeting civilian activists, young men, religious figures, and journalists. Many of them remain detained to this day, reportedly held in poor conditions in alJolani’s prisons.
As for the Christian protest in Bab Toma in Damascus against alcohol-banning : They were met with widespread attacks targeting Christians and their religious symbols across different parts of the country, many of which we have documented.

🔹The Alawite protests took place at noon on December 28. By the evening of the following day, the minister of interior Anas Khatab (Abu Ahmad Hudud) had sent Sunni mobs to attack Alawite neighborhoods in Latakia, while GS militias provided them with protection.
The same pattern occurred in the Christian city of #Suqaylabiyya at the end of March 2026.

🔹Vehicle ramming incident:
At a HTS-led General Security checkpoint, a car was allowed to drive into a protest, killing Haidar Rabee and injuring several other protesters. The vehicle was then allowed to flee the scene.
Later that same day, the driver who carried out the attack was publicly glorified and praised by official outlets, including Al-Thawra newspaper, as well as on social media, where people were seen taking selfies with him. He was not held accountable for killing protesters.

@Geshti_Azadi @Sherefname In reality, it's Armenia.
They won't do anything.
English

@Qarnap_03 @Sherefname Bazîd falls to the west of the mountain. If your kindness is taken for granted, then you can react appropriately.
English

@Geshti_Azadi @Sherefname How do you intend to do that? We would logically have to cede Bazîd to them, or otherwise cede only part of Bazîd? They will demand the entirety.
English

@Qarnap_03 @Sherefname I don't know where you get the idea of handing over the province, I was just talking about the mountain. Kurdish people's homes aren't to be played around with.
English

@Sherefname @Geshti_Azadi It's mostly the Armenians who have overvalued this province in the eyes of the world.
English

@Sherefname @Geshti_Azadi Seriously, this province where it gets extremely cold — temperatures can literally reach -22 degrees — has nothing to offer except for some nice spring landscapes, and even then, there are better ones in Bakûr, in Sirnex, Hekkari, Wan, or even in Bitlis.
