The Shroud of Turin. The Shroud of Turin is an ancient linen cloth believed by many to be Jesus’ burial shroud. It bears a faint, holographic, mysterious image of a crucified man. New Testament scholar Jeremiah Johnston recently shared the evidence on the Shawn Ryan Show. He started as a skeptic but was convinced by the science. In 1978, a team of scientists called STURP (Shroud of Turin Research Project) thoroughly studied the cloth with modern equipment. Key findings: • The stains are real human blood, type AB, with high ferritin levels showing signs of extreme torture — consistent with Roman scourging and crucifixion. Blood types weren’t discovered until 1901, so a medieval forger (the most common skeptical explanation) couldn’t have known or chosen type AB. Interestingly, AB blood was actually common in 1st-century Jerusalem. • Pollen from 58 plants was found, including 38 species from around Jerusalem that bloom at Passover time. • Most remarkably, the image is not painted or burned. It is extremely superficial — only 0.02 microns deep (thinner than a hair). Creating it would have required an instantaneous burst of roughly 34 trillion watts of energy in a fraction of a second — far beyond anything possible with medieval technology or even modern lasers without destroying the cloth. Johnston says the chance this isn’t Jesus’ shroud is about 1 in 200 billion. He calls it “an itemized receipt of how much Jesus loves you.” Jewish photographer Barrie Schwortz, who documented the STURP study as a skeptic, became convinced by the blood evidence and other details no medieval artist could have faked. In short, many features on the Shroud are things ancient or medieval people simply could not have created with the knowledge and tools of their time.

New Testament scholar Jeremiah Johnston explains why he believes the Shroud of Turin is authentic, tells story about how Jewish technical photographer Barrie Schwortz became convinced it was authentic. "If you're a medieval forger, how are you gonna know about AB blood?" "I believe that based on the evidence in the 102 academic disciplines that have studied over 600,000 research hours in it... I believe that because I'm not irrational." "I went from skeptic to believing in it based on the science..." "It is an itemized receipt of how much Jesus loves you." Remarkable. Video: @ShawnRyan762

OUCH! The S&P 493 – that’s the S&P 500 excl “Magnificent 7” – is expected to deliver just 2-3% net income growth in Q2, Q3, and Q4. That’s slower than inflation, meaning most of the market is barely growing in real terms. Measured against this, US equities are quite expensive! (via Strategas)
