Every time I travel through coffee and cocoa growing communities, I see the same thing; fertile land, hardworking young people and crops that have the power to completely transform Uganda’s economy. Yet somehow, we continue to treat coffee and cocoa like side conversations instead of national priorities. Uganda is already earning close to 3 billion dollars combined from coffee and cocoa, but the painful truth is that this number could easily grow beyond 10 billion dollars in just 3years if we became intentional as a country. Not through endless conferences, workshops in hotels or leaders flying from one meeting to another speaking big English about agriculture transformation. Real transformation will come from action. Imagine if every serious youth interested in coffee or cocoa farming got access to free or highly subsidized improved seedlings. The biggest burden for many young farmers is the cost of setting up a farm. Good seedlings alone take a huge percentage of the investment. If government and stakeholders focused on this one issue seriously, the cost of establishment for young farmers would reduce by almost half. Imagine if we employed more agronomists instead of filling offices with people disconnected from the field. Farmers need extension workers who move farm to farm teaching spacing, pruning, nutrition, pest control, harvesting and post-harvest handling. Productivity would immediately rise. Imagine if youth-friendly agricultural loans actually existed. Not loans designed for rich businessmen with collateral but financing systems that understand the realities of young farmers trying to build from scratch. Add irrigation access, affordable inputs and proper market systems to this equation and Uganda would witness a completely different agricultural economy within just 3 years. The potential is already here. Our soils are ready. Our climate is favorable. The global demand for quality coffee and cocoa keeps increasing. What is missing is not another strategic document. We already have coffee and cocoa strategic plans sitting on shelves. What we need now is implementation. Less noise. Less high-level meetings that produce reports nobody reads. More action in the gardens. Because the day Uganda starts treating coffee and cocoa as serious economic engines instead of political talking points, that is the day agriculture will stop being seen as poverty and start becoming the wealth creator it truly is. There is a lot we can do as a country but our leaders seem less interested in making our country a better place Anyways I know they have ears and eyes to read but still less will be done for now let me go grow my cocoa back home For God and my country

There is a generation of young coffee farmers who are growing their coffee on large scale in silence and no one is giving attention to them but the country will be shocked by this new movement and am glad am part of it The young people have taken farming so personal

Biggest mistakes done by young beginner coffee farmers Most people have been asking me about the dos and don’t when setting up a coffee farm and today allow me talk about the biggest mistakes we do as young farmers One mistake many beginner coffee farmers make is rushing to plant before understanding what they are getting into. Coffee looks profitable from the outside but the farm is built long before the first harvest comes. I have seen people buy seedlings today because prices are high, only to abandon the farm two years later because they were not prepared for the patience, discipline and investment coffee needs. Another big mistake is choosing land without studying the soil and environment. Some people plant coffee anywhere simply because they own the land. Later the coffee becomes yellow, weak and unproductive. A beginner should first test the soil understand rainfall patterns, drainage and the type of coffee suitable for that area. Good land preparation may look expensive at first but it saves years of frustration. Spacing is another thing many people ignore. Beginners want to maximize numbers and end up overcrowding the garden. The farm looks beautiful in the first year but later diseases increase, sunlight reduces and yields drop badly. Coffee needs space to breathe. A well-spaced farm will always do better than a crowded one over time. Many youths also make the mistake of buying cheap seedlings from random roadside nurseries because they want to save money. In reality, cheap seedlings become expensive later through poor yields and disease problems. Always buy healthy seedlings from trusted nursery operators even if they cost a little more like @mildredtuhaise One painful mistake I have personally observed is neglecting the farm after planting. Some people think once seedlings are in the ground, the work is done. They forget mulching, irrigation during dry spells, pruning, shade management and weed control. Coffee farming rewards consistency more than excitement. The small things done repeatedly are what build a productive farm. Another mistake is planting coffee without a market plan. Many beginners focus only on growing coffee but never think about quality, buyers, post-harvest handling or which market they want to target. Yet the difference between ordinary and premium coffee starts from the farm itself. If you want better prices tomorrow start farming for quality today. And lastly, many young farmers try to do everything alone. Coffee is one industry where relationships matter a lot. Work with agronomists, experienced farmers, exporters, cooperatives and fellow youths in the value chain. Some people have knowledge, others have markets, others have capital. Growth becomes faster when people collaborate honestly. Coffee farming is not a quick money business. It is a patience business, a discipline business and a vision business. The farmers who win are usually the ones who prepare well before planting and remain consistent even when results delay. Have a nice week and For God and my country

From what I have witnessed moving around different parts of Kampala today, if @Arsenal wins Champions League, the rest of us need to leave the city for Arsenal supporters for at least a month. It won't be safe 🙌
