I recently heard a speculation that ‘women often mourn while still involved in a declining relationship, before it ends. Men often only mourn a relationship after they have lost it and finally fully recognize the magnitude of loss.’ I’ve been considering if that might be true?

@thevirdas As a very grateful crew member on almost 20 luxury cruise ships, for about a decade, I respectfully disagree. I made global friends, tremendously grew cross-cultural understanding, and visited many spectacular locations in almost 50 countries, for free. Super happy life chapter!

Chocolate Ice cream with Baby Alvin 🤠 I got banana, not because I love banana ice cream but because I don’t usually eat ice cream and he loves banana - so I thought he’d like it. Nope. He loves chocolate ice cream, but banana is now boring - this may have been a mistake 😅 He could only taste a little chocolate ice cream since he’s not old enough for chocolate, and because we’re not raising him on ice cream in general 🤣

Tomorrow is my first day at my new job. I’m excited and nervous and I feel so lucky for this opportunity. After almost six months without a job I cannot tell you how thankful I am. It’s been tough financially, emotionally and I was starting to lose hope. I am so happy I got the break I needed. I wish that for everyone struggling to find work and get by.

Fight, flight…write: 16 months of pure fight or fucking flight mode. And a body finally allowed to crash, does so spectacularly in London. Released a bestselling book, wrote Sounds of India and debuted it, wrote Hey Stranger and debuted the world tour, made and released Happy Patel, shot Call Me Bae, directed another series out soon, wrote a film that goes on floor in July. Press tours, lit fest tours, world tours, India tours. Promotions, meaning I talked more about my work than I did during my work. Which I’ve always found to be a fucking ridiculous construct. My therapist tells me I’m to reward myself for the last year and a half. Little treats she says. I’m wondering if that’s what all these meds are. Acidity, aches, pains, and glorious little daily body surprises that come with adulting and trying to get this new body for this new character. Either way, self pity having passed, blessings are now being counted as i like awake at 5.30am. I woke up with a new joke in my head, Ima do it at Royal Albert Hall, and probably get booed. The good kind of booing, it’s gonna piss em off :-) Can’t wait. My health is better, so I get to start drinking coffees today, maybe a cigarette or three, soon a Guinness…or three. There’s chocolate covered digestives in the fridge. This old London wood floor creaks when I walk on it. One of my favourite sounds. Reminding one that things have existed for way longer than this exhaustion. The building I’m in is over 200 years old, which is how my right knee feels right now. Got a Leica camera. Wanted one for years, never thought I deserved one. Then my hotel in Boston had a Leica store in the lobby. Like the universe saying “Go on now!”. Ima walk around London today looking like a tourist. Take photos of squirrels and dogs. And there it is, another joke idea as I put the kettle on. I was so tired when I got here I didn’t think I’d be writing. This post even. Maybe that’s the weird circle my body lives in. Fight, flight, good night…..write.

Farewell Canada… Two and a half years ago, I packed my bags and boarded a flight from London 🇬🇧 to Toronto 🇨🇦. It was the beginning of a new chapter — one I could never have fully imagined. Tonight, I’m standing in Toronto Pearson International Airport, about to board another flight — this time back home to London. I’m pausing. Reflecting. Feeling the full weight of this moment. Canada has transformed me. I worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at London Health Sciences Centre and served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Western University. But beyond the titles and roles, what I carry with me is something far deeper — the privilege of witnessing the full spectrum of human emotion, of serving those with mental health difficulties, of growing alongside extraordinary colleagues and unforgettable friends. I have learned. I have grown. I have been stretched. I have been humbled. This goodbye is bittersweet. My heart is heavy — because I leave behind friendships forged in authenticity and adversity, friendships I will carry for the rest of my life. But the wounded healer must wander on. Canada will always be a part of me. And who knows what the future holds. As always — protect your minds and protect your hearts. I’ll see you on the other side. Some of my favorite memories are with a person I can’t have a relationship with because they are bad for me. We were as close as my kid and I are when I was a teenager. I have done a lot I’m very proud of in my life. I’ve never felt pride unless I was obeying 100%. Tough day.

I have been having a tough day physically. I’m moving mountains over here, but some of them are heavy buggers. I am not too proud to ask for a “You got this, you glorious chick who looks ten years younger than she really is,” when I need one. I got this. I just like you is all.
