I ho fa sense miraments.

Acabaran prohibint l’emprenedoria i el treball autònom.

Cycling, this is how we love you. Sanremo, you absolutely deserve the label of classicissima. The most exciting final 30 minutes of the season took a particularly interesting turn this year, in a way that many of us have never seen in our lifetimes and perhaps have been waiting for so long. Mathieu van der Poel won Milano-Sanremo, further expanding his monument tally and reinforcing the invincible monument status he has built over the years. 18 monuments, 17 top 10s, 7 wins. Crazy statistics. But how did this absolutely frenetic race situation come together? I think that in some respects, the tactical development of this race was already decided when UAE did not control until Cipressa. Silvain Dillier and INEOS's involvement actually could have showed us theoretically how much a relatively rested (after 260 km, how rested can one be...) UAE can push on Cipressa, what the actual limit is that they can reach with a strategy that seems fundamentally polished compared to last year. Then what happened on the Cipressa may have completely rewritten the modern future of the race. Regarding UAE, we have stereotyped a lot about how the dream of a sub-9-minute Cipressa could come together, whether through hard work, team performance, or Tadej Pogacar's attack. The team, along with Andrej Hauptman, rewrote the whole thing, assigning each rider exactly the role they were meant to play - and it makes perfect sense that Isaac del Toro did not have an active role in this. Tim Wellens, as has now become almost customary in one-day races, started the hard pace, and it was noticeable from the beginning of Cipressa that Pogacar was not behind him. UAE really wanted to bait the favourites and trick the peloton by actually pushing an insane pace with Narvaez later on, which, in fact, possibly for the first time in the modern history of the race, created a real gap in just 1-1.2 kilometers and reduced the peloton to 20 members. Such an initial selection was necessary for Pogacar to attempt the attack before the steepest kilometer of Cipressa, and for it to really make sense. Pogacar and Hauptman, and UAE totally knew what they wanted to do, they had to take this risk, they had to choose this unorthodox approach on Cipressa - and it worked, as only the best rider of one-day races and the best rider of ITTs, the diesels, Mathieu van der Poel and Filippo Ganna, were able to follow him - indeed, they did it in two consecutive launches. 9:01. Historic. Poggio came, and Ganna was immediately put in trouble by Pogacar, who attacked at least 4-5 times in the last 3 kilometers. I think he revived his old style for a unique, exceptional moment like this; he had to tap into the explosive version of himself from 2022-23, because the steepness of the Poggio doesn't allow his current post-2024 attacks quantitatively, as it is increasingly based on strength. By that method, he would have collapsed by the end of the Poggio. Van der Poel handled these launches very well throughout Poggio, the third Pogacar attack was the only one that was a bit more challenging for him due to the short distance between attacks, but thanks to the Slovenian's witty racing, MvdP managed to close that gap. Following this, came the flashback that will perhaps be one of the most memorable moments of Poggio: Van der Poel, at the same stone wall where he definitively launched his attack on Pogacar in 2023, tried again, and strangely enough, this put the Slovenian in trouble (I don't even understand why, as it was clear that Mathieu would not, and did not want to race passively against Tadej; their respect for the sport and each other is greater than what would justify passive riding), but they reached the iconic phone booth at the same time, while Ganna followed them in a fierce battle with the elements and himself with an 8-10 second gap. What followed was pretty clear to anyone who has watched any cycling in the last 5 years: Mathieu van der Poel's one-day sprint acceleration can only be defeated if the group or the person with him sets a relatively high pace before the sprint, as we saw with Kasper Asgreen and Mads Pedersen - and I believe Pogacar would have followed this plan as well, as he really didn't want van der Poel to control the situation. His plan was thwarted, however, by the world's truly best rouleur, Filippo Ganna, who made up a 7-second deficit over the 1.5 kilometers leading to Via Roma and caught up with the leading duo before the last 800 meters. From this point on, the dynamics took a sudden 180-degree turn, and the sprinters dictated the race on a mental level, culminating in an acceleration that started from a slow pace. In this aspect, Mathieu van der Poel is unbeatable. He probably would have been unbeatable even if he hadn't been the first to launch, but since he believed in himself, he knew what he was capable of in his current state, and with confidence raging, he virtually conquered Liguria by riding in the middle of the road, winning this race for the second time in his career. Alpecin 23-24-25 - that's a very great streak. However, I think it can be said after today that Sanremo, which might have always been the monument of surprises... it is no longer this monument. Seeing that it is indeed possible to create a decisive gap on Cipressa, this race will not return to the territory of pure sprinters anytime soon - the question remains: what type of people we will call pure sprinters by the end of the decade? As for Ganna: a brilliant second place, for the second time in his career, and Pogacar once again proved that he can win this race, and now he knows the recipe for it - he just needs to fine-tune it. What a race, what a show. #MilanoSanremo

I’d like to thank everyone at @FCBarcelona for their incredible kindness to me and my family yesterday. A massive, glamorous club, but everyone we met was so friendly and genuine and with values that are so refreshing in modern sport.

87 tones!
