The West does not need Rwanda to plunder Congo. It needs Mobutu, the Kabilas, Tshisekedi and the likes. Glenchore is already there, bribing its way to Congo's mines and back to its swiss bank accounts. (aljazeera.com/amp/news/2022/…) Americans have signed a memorandum of understanding and secured deals with Tshisekedi to control copper and cobalt supply chains from Congo's mines to their electric vehicles. (state.gov/the-united-sta…) They frame this as a response to China's predatory practices in DRC. (youtu.be/cB6Hg2ID5_Q?si…) The Chinese also control mines. In some of those, Congolese authorities don't even have the right to set foot on concessions, which are run like territories outside their jurisdiction! All these deals, most of which led (and will lead) to the forcible displacement of people (without relocation plans), child labor, environmental degradations and other massive human rights violations were signed by congolese leaders, NOT Kagame. youtu.be/daMiqjqGmNc?si…) (youtu.be/cB6Hg2ID5_Q?si…). So where does this idea that western powers use Rwanda to secure economic interests in Congo come from? It started as an attempt to deny Rwanda the right to pursue a genocidal group that had find shelter and support in eastern DRC. Now, it is tolerated by all major players from the West and East (who happen to be in the security council) for an obvious reason: As long as all African eyes are on Rwanda, nobody is interested in what the chinese are doing and what deals the Americans are securing in exchange for their diplomatic support to Thisekedi. As a wise man said: "When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land." For some Africans. The mention of Kagame and Rwanda have become the new bible, the boogyman argument that is used to distract them from the plunder taking place in DRC on an industrial scale. They are obsessed by the smuggling networks made of individuals crossing borders of DRC neighbors to sell their meagre bounty. Meanwhile, planes are taking off from chinese concessions, trucks are loaded from congolese mines all the way to South African ports via Zambia, and railways are built to transport (via Angola) even greater quantities of copper and cobalt that will support US's desperate attempts to catch up to China's "green transition". When Africans wake up from their slumber, Congo will be firmly in the hands of foreign powers. Yet, they only need to ask themselves a few questions to find the truth they seek. Questions like: Would you rather have someone like Paul Kagame or someone like Tshisekedi at the helm of a mineral rich African country ? Who would you trust to negotiate with foreign corporations and governments the best deals for his people ? Who amongst the two would provide security to his people? Would someone like Kagame tolerate 200+ armed groups in his country ? Would he let corrupt army generals and politicians set up armed groups in order to control smuggling networks for minerals ? Would he let the police daily harass his people in an endless quest for bribes ? Would he leave his people without basic services like healthcare, public transportation, education, etc.? Africans can't say they want freedom for our continent and then form an alliance with foreign powers to vilify the best leaders we have, while protecting the mediocre ones. It is simply nonsensical ! 🔴 Western powers don't need Rwanda to get access to Congo's minerals.

PAUL KAGAME: HERO OR VILLAIN? Paul Kagame has become a popular figure among Africans across the continent, who like and share his brilliant responses to arrogant Western interviewers. But is Rwanda’s President really the Pan-African giant that he’s made out to be? Many think not, including in neighbouring DRC - where rebel groups allegedly funded by him are accused of perpetrating genocidal violence. He’s also been branded a puppet of capitalism. Congolese activists shared with African Stream their reasons for being very wary of Paul Kagame. What’s your take on the Rwandan leader?
