Islam is the greatest blessing the Persians have received. Arabs deserve Persian thanks for their role in delivering this gift, the Turks for their role in defending it, and the Indians for beautifying it with the best forms of architecture, cuisine, and culture. When it comes to "civilization," I challenge @sharghzadeh to write two lists. In the first list, put the greatest pre-Islamic Persian scholars/thinkers and the greatest pre-Islamic works of literature. In the second list, put the greatest Muslim Persian scholars/thinkers and works of literature. What do you notice about these two lists? Do you notice that one is virtually empty and the other is overflowing? And please don't say "muh Zoroastrianism." The only ppl who think Zoroastrianism compares to Islam are those who know nothing about it and have created a fake version of it in their heads. This fake Zoroastrianism is basically liberal Western culture expressed in Zoroastrian symbols (e.g., faravahar). Advocates of fake Zoroastrianism deny basic Zoroastrian teachings prescribing slavery, polygamy, blasphemy punishments, etc. The truth is that Zoroastrianism is a religion of bitheism, of sacred parent-child and sibling-sibling incest (xwedodah), of caste, of macabre "towers of silence," of ritually washing everything in cow urine (gomez), and which obligates its followers to wage a holy war of extremination against various animals (xrafstar) that are seen as allies of the devil (Ahriman) (e..g, snakes, lizards, frogs, tortoises, scorpions, beetles, ants, and locusts). How can such a pre-Islamic Zoroastrian civilization compare to Muslim Persian civilization?

This theory is always so silly. Donner knows that the Dome of the Rock is quoting the Qur’an. But the main text here is written as if it is not, only mentioning it in the footnote along with a variant from Ibn Mas’ud of al-hanifiyya, which is suggested as the “original” reading.
