@MadsDavies The definition of vulnerable being used in Baptist training now is that anyone can be vulnerable if the circumstances are likely to harm your ability to set boundaries: eg sickness, bereavement, power dynamics, not just mental impairment due to learning disability or dementia.

Interested in this aspect of the Scolding Soul Survivor Review. "A number of the allegations . . . do not relate to 'safeguarding' matters in a formal sense, since they involve adults who may not be considered to be vulnerable in light of the definition used above"

I am with Fergus in that I want a sermon to challenge me intellectually as well as emotionally. But I pretty much abandoned writing sermons when I came to @parishnw6. That was mainly because when I write them, they go to one end of educational spectrum…. In a parish like ours where people are incredibly diverse on many fronts, it seems to me that simply speaking to the texts makes me communicate to a greater number of people in a very direct way. I hope and I don’t think that’s intellectually, dumbing down. There is a way in which we can speak to many simply but with depth. Better a clear message for a whelk than a confusing one for a whale. Inclusive communication is a feature, not a bug!

Now for my traditional Christmas afternoon activity- fielding the irate and confused messages of family members and friends who have had to go to Christmas sermons which were pitched at the intellectual level of a whelk.

@TheRealJamieKay I've often wondered that myself. I think it's partly because Jews, Muslims and vegetarians don't eat it, but surely there must be more to it than that?

‘The Archbishop of Canterbury was my childhood au pair’. This is a fascinating essay, not just for the insights into Bishop Sarah’s earlier life, but for learning about parish life in 1980s Brixton. The author’s father was vicar of St Stephen’s, Lambeth thetimes.com/life-style/cel…

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?” “Because that’s what they are.” @vicderbyshire asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference. #Newsnight

Perhaps it is because @cathynewman is a ‘committed feminist’ (whatever that is) that she felt she could assess the new Archbishop on more than just their sex.

On average, a disabled household would need an extra £1,095 every month to have the same standard of living as a non-disabled household. That's the Disability Price Tag. It's not about poor budgeting. It's a cost-of-living crisis that is hitting disabled people hard.

Since leaving the Bishop Off tent, the bishops have been getting out and about..... +Scunthorpe is glad to be back in her Diocese, where she can preach a nice short sermon every Sunday without Paul Hollywood saying "it's a bit simplistic"

@ChrisJhojacob I’m sure there was a whole mix of people on the march including many who are just frustrated with feeling life’s getting worse and the govt not doing anything to fix it. My challenge is to remember that and not assume everyone’s a drunk racist just bc some were.

@ChrisJhojacob I guess the points of contact between opposing views are where it’s easy for things to get out of hand. My friends who were intimidated weren’t part of either protest. You struck me as someone who’s against bullying behaviour in general so I was surprised by your comment.

@R4che1H Ask the left wing loonies, the LGBT+ drunks, and those in the areas where the trouble was. This map is from the. Met police. It's very clear who caused the trouble and the areas they were in. The hard left commies need locking up.

Nothing justifies murder, including murder of a far-right thug such as #CharlieKirk. Let's not pretend though that he wasn't a racist homophobe whose hands were covered in blood. Given his distortion of faith to promote hate, I hope he won't be claimed as some sort of martyr.

Now that @ZackPolanski is the leader of a party with the same amount of MPs as Reform UK, but more councillors, he should get as much media coverage. RT if you agree!

I've been thinking about Alexis Jay's report on Independent Safeguarding and how she (seemingly) recommended limiting and shortening the definition of Vulnerable Adult, and of the Barnardo’s Report which suggested everyone can become Vulnerable in a church setting

I've been researching and reading for my talk at the Safeguarding Conference in Oxford in October. I'm reading about liberation theology, and thinking about how it applies to us as survivors who are both, at times, vulnerable and unbreakable

This is evil.

Born gay or sexually abused? First of all. No one is born gay. There are no gay babies. To even suggest that people are born gay is to sexualize babies, which is obviously perverse. The truth is, disordered sexual desires are almost always the result of childhood sexual trauma. This is the truth that most people know, but we’re not allowed to say out loud. And here’s another one… There is an epidemic of childhood sexual abuse in the LGBT community. Most sodomites were sexually abused as children. From what I’ve gathered, it’s basically an open secret in the LGBT community. Anecdotally, over 90% of the men that I’ve counseled/discipled that struggle with disordered sexual sin (same sex attraction), were sexually abused as a child. My father, a pastor for of 35 years, said this was the case for 100% of the men he counseled with this struggle. The evidence points very clearly to The fact that early sexual trauma is the primary indicator of whether or not someone will claim LGBT identity later in life. Tragically, those who are abused as children often go on to abuse other children as adults. Not everyone who was abused abuses. But virtually everyone who abuses was abused. How do we stop this viscous cycle of abuse? Bring back public executions. ANYONE who is caught sexually abusing a child should face a swift trial and a speedy public execution. This would dramatically reduce the number of children who are abused, and we would see a subsequent drop in the number of people claiming the LGBT identity. According to scripture this is one of the primary roles of the civil magistrate, to exercise the sword of justice against the evil doer (Romans 13). And there are few things on this earth more evil than abusing a child. For all those who were sexually abused as a child and now struggle with disordered desires, please know that it’s never too late to come to Christ. You’re not too far gone. Christ can save you, forgive you, and redeem you from that lifestyle. You need only to repent and believe. As a Christian, I love my society enough to tell the truth, and work towards enacting righteous laws that will protect children from abuse. It all starts with being willing to tell the truth, even if it’s unpopular. And the truth is… No one is born gay. Sodomy is a sexual perversion. Sexual abusers should be publicly executed as a deterrent and a matter of Justice. And no one is beyond the saving power of Jesus Christ.
