People defending Gary Lineker on freedom of speech grounds are either being intellectually dishonest or just plain stupid. This is not a free speech issue. It's about the BBC's obligation to be impartial. Gary Lineker can say what he likes if he leaves the BBC. His choice.

Whilst I share @GaryLineker’s view on the migrant refugees, he has signed a contract. I have signed a few and all of them ask that you are impartial . I’d say that includes sport teams as well as political teams. It may not be fair but that’s what you sign .

It's simple @GaryLineker. You have a contract with the BBC, & the BBC has a contract with licence fee payers, who fund your £1.3mill wage, which requires you to observe "due impartiality". You have to choose: work at the BBC or give your political opinions. You can't do both. 🤷🏻‍♀️
