.@alexspeier was just on @NESN and seemed to think the Red Sox would look to either identify a SP ready to take a step forward (like Lugo/Flaherty/Imanaga this year) into frontline status or trade for elite talent rather than throwing big money at a 7+ year deal for a starter (Burnes/Fried/Snell etc).

The reality is that the Red Sox need to get a #1. That trumps all else. If they don't get a #1 this offseason, it's a failure. Yes, it's that binary. That doesn't mean they shouldn't stock up on additional arms.
