@SashaGusevPosts of course the index probably does not include many studies with non significant p-values

I initially thought this was a joke but I've now seen multiple evo psych bloggers citing the "Replicability Index": a web-site that estimates "replicability" by looking at the distribution of p-values reported in each journal (lower = replicating). Have people lost their minds?!

@arunansuspeaks @Adobe i applaud their ethics for training model on stock images, but from what i’ve seen, they might be a bit behind

I'm being intentionally provocative, but often people use the sample mean when they should use the median. The mean isn't finite for many important distributions, can be misleading for highly skewed distributions, and the sample median is a more robust location statistic than the sample mean.

Alright let’s get controversial today: in your opinion, what is the most over-used and least informative statistic?

The Materiality Provision protects votes from being thrown out due to trivial mistakes, but the RNC is trying to advance a theory arguing that private individuals and organizations cannot bring lawsuits under it. Learn more about this dangerous idea here. democracydocket.com/proa/

@Richard_D_Riley Ultimately, I think it will replicate what statisticians and data scientists do. I.e the problem solving part. We will evolve into something. Maybe at the beginning fact checkers. But, Once you are on a technology train it is full steam ahead, and if it can be automated it will be

End of days We should not be promoting this technology with words such as ‘biggest update’ or ‘simply’ or ‘analyse it for you’ Statistics & data science is a profession requiring substantial training at degree level(s) - there is rarely anything simple or automated about it

@arunansuspeaks absolutely. individual xxxGPTs should not be rolled out and spew bad information. if source was copyrighted it would be a violation. but allowing sophisticated prompting allows this

Private tech CEOs push for responsible #AIRegulation, but achieving universally accepted rules is a challenge due to AI's complexity. Bridging the knowledge gap between regulators and the #Tech industry is vital for effective regulations.

@emollick Agree with @emollick . prompt engineering sounds like just another thing to put on a resume. Trying to give guidance to AI seems counterintuitive. AI gives guidance to you

One of the reasons why I think prompt engineering will fade in importance for most people is that AI is already pretty good at doing prompt engineering for you. For example, you can get useful prompt guidance from just using this basic prompt in GPT-4. chat.openai.com/share/c1b9f609…

@alexkyllo that is true. there are a lot of organizations who have little or no data and need to start by examining what they are looking at their goals and seeing what is out there

I increasingly believe that a data scientist's work should begin long before looking at any data and sometimes even before any data exists. The job is reasoning about theories using assumptions and evidence, not simply mining existing data for predictive models and "insights."
Cassie Kozyrkov@decisionleader

You can’t do data science if there’s no data. If you get hired to be head of data science in an organization where there’s no data and no data engineering, guess who’s going to be the data engineer…? You!

The write-it-for-me Button has come to gmail (or at least to beta testers). It is now easier to just have AI write email for you than to do it yourself. I don’t think we are ready for what this means, as I discovered when The Button came to Google Docs. oneusefulthing.org/p/setting-time…

Can we start popularizing some new terms for "AI" that aren't beholden to a particular 50s tech fantasy? Generation from Extracted Information? Generation from Mined Data? Data-Mined Generative Model? Give me a catchy phrase and acronym below.
