We are extremely concerned by this proposal. Children cannot consent to sex, and if this law is passed, millions of children will be placed at a direct risk of abuse. CSA/E is a global issue, yet there are no international safeguards in place to protect children from harm. (2/3)

It is down to us as a society to change how we see and talk about this crime, so that CSA survivors and those still facing sexual abuse can feel empowered to seek support from those they trust.

Child sexual abuse is an ever growing crime and the stigma associated with this topic frequently discourages victims from coming forward to share their own experiences.

An adult to a different country with the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with a child does not constitute a ‘holiday romance’.

5. Reluctancy to use the appropriate terminology, i.e child rapist, only further perpetuates the idea that the crime isn’t serious and places shame on the victim for their response.
