The Medicaid work requirement the House passed this morning is the strictest version of the policy that Congress has ever put forward. Diving into the details with @sangerkatz: nytimes.com/2025/05/22/ups…

The House Budget employs a slew of policies to force Americans off Medicaid, with work requirements having the largest effect. My @Morning_Joe Chart

@ariellesophia maybe you can answer this: do the proposed Medicaid work requirements apply to all "abled bodied" recipients or just those recipients who were covered through Medicaid expansion?

There are a lot of reasons why that game was lost. Not having Hendriks in that game is way down the list if it's even on it. He's the only guy you have left. He can only go 1 inning. You need to stretch out Weissert. Pick the other 8-10 reasons instead.

@mollyereynolds are we sure that Medicaid work requirements would pass the Byrd test in the Senate. I mean, I assume it is a given if the Speaker is expending so much capital to get this through the House?

@meredithllee are we *sure* that the issue of Medicaid work requirements will pass the Byrd test in order to be done through reconciliation in the Senate?

@NateSilver538 It’s still possible Democrats take House. So don’t see House having a strong GOP majority either way.

There's a world in which you might say, "Well, if Democrats are going to take a loss, probably better for the party to take a clear loss that'll cause more self-reflection," but also, Senators have 6-year terms. So whether the Senate ends up at say 52-48 vs. 55-45 is a big deal.

@NateSilver538 a big deal, yes, but Dems should gain some Senate seats in 2 years (though probably not enough to regain majority)
