Operation UPHOLD DEMOCRACY was the mission to restore order in Haiti. I served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Joint Task Force 188. On 8 September 1994, I got on the USS AMERICA from Norfolk, Virginia and disembarked from the carrier back at Norfolk on 22 October 1994. We deployed aboard the carrier with a complete Ranger Battalion (2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment), a partial Ranger Battalion, and a company of Rangers from a third Ranger Battalion, two SEAL Squadrons from SEAL Team Six, helicopters from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), “Night Stalkers,” Air Force Combat Controllers, Joint Medical Augmentation Unit (JMAU), and the staff from the JSOC. Altogether we had 64 Army, Air Force, and Navy helicopters aboard the carrier.
