Regional Industrialization Conference
The Regional Industrialization Conference (RIC) returns. Since its inception, #RIC has evolved into a flagship regional platform advancing structured, evidence-based dialogue on East Africa’s industrial transformation. #RIC24 established the case for innovation-driven, climate-responsive industrialization. #RIC25 strengthened policy advocacy, regional harmonization and investment alignment. #RIC26 marks a strategic progression. 📅 18–19 August 2026 📍 Kampala Serena Hotel Under the theme: "Unlocking Industrial Competitiveness through Innovation and Regional Value Chain Integration" This year, the focus shifts squarely to execution: • Strengthening production ecosystems • Scaling industrial parks and export zones • Accelerating technology transfer and Industry 4.0 adoption • Mobilizing blended and green finance • Integrating regional value chains under AfCFTA • Positioning East Africa as a manufacturing and processing hub The East African Community represents over 400 million people and a combined GDP approximately $400B. The opportunity is historic. The responsibility is collective. Over the coming weeks, we will share insights, data, policy reflections and stakeholder engagements as we build momentum toward #RIC2026. This is more than a conference. It is a platform for coordinated regional execution. #RIC2026 #IndustrialCompetitiveness #EAC #AfCFTA

As @AshabaA reminded us at #RIC25, industries do not exist in isolation — sustainable industrial growth must go hand in hand with creating jobs and increasing purchasing power. Important reflections as we look ahead to #RIC26

A powerful reflection from #RIC2025. @UIRI_UG 's Prof. Charles Kwesiga emphasised that Africa’s industrial future must embrace AI and technology-driven production systems. If we don’t build the future we want, someone else will. #RIC26

Kudos to @PSF_Uganda — such an important engagement for strengthening regional trade. Addressing Non-Tariff Barriers is critical to unlocking the full potential of East Africa’s regional value chains and improving industrial competitiveness. These are exactly the kinds of policy and implementation conversations that the #RIC Conference continues to champion as we work toward a more integrated and productive regional economy. Save the date for #RIC26 📅 18–19 August 2026 📍 Kampala Serena Hotel #IndustrialCompetitiveness #EAC #AfCFTA

Key developments have taken place within the East African Community: · Decisions of the Community will now be taking either by consensus or by 65.0% of members. Outgoing Chairperson says it has increasingly become difficult to get consensus on issues · Member states' equal contribution formula has been abandoned. Going forward, it will be 50.0% contributed equally & the remaining 50.0% by assessed contribution (i.e. pegged on the size of one's economy) · The community has agreed to waive 50.0% of arrears for member states & the remaining 50.0% should be settled within the next two years · The 5 senior positions within the Community's Leadership (i.e. Sec Gen, Speaker, President of the Court & the two Deputy Sec Gens) will be a preserve of only those countries that have ratified the Treaty · Uganda's President, Yoweri Museveni, has assumed the Chairperson's position, taking over from Kenya's President William Ruto. Uganda has assumed the Chair, Rwanda has assumed rapporteur position

🌍 Where Has Oil Been Discovered in Uganda? 🇺🇬🛢️ Uganda’s oil and gas journey is centered in one key region: the Albertine Graben, a stretch along the western part of the country bordering Lake Albert. This area includes districts like Hoima, Buliisa, Nwoya, Kikuube, and Ntoroko, making it the heart of Uganda’s petroleum activity. But what exactly is the Albertine Graben? Think of it as a giant natural valley created by movements deep within the earth’s crust. Over millions of years, layers of sand and rock in this valley acted like natural reservoirs, trapping oil and gas formed from ancient plants and animals. Uganda has six sedimentary basins, but oil has so far been discovered only in the Albertine Graben — and that’s why it’s the centre of exploration, development, and investment today. #CreatingLastingValue #UGOilJourney #PAUAT10

A Ugandan delegation comprising representatives from UNOC, @PAU_Uganda and @IECUganda undertook a benchmarking visit to the Dangote Refinery in Lagos, Nigeria, the world’s largest single train refinery with a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day. During the visit, the teams shared insights into the project’s delivery model, financing structure, operational readiness, and workforce development strategy. The engagement provided valuable lessons to support Uganda’s refinery development, particularly in strengthening governance, technical capability, and large-scale project execution.
