Hon @FMwebesa1 - 'I thank H.E the President of Uganda @KagutaMuseveni for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives for the past 5 years. A lot has been achieved during this time including; 📌 Strengthening the legal framework through enacting different laws; ▪︎ The Sugar Amendment Act 2025 ▪︎ The Competition Act 2024 ▪︎ The Cooperative Amendment Act 2023, among others 📌 Contributed to the increase in Uganda's exports that are currently valued at $13.6 billion. 📌 Supported a number of MSMEs in capacity building, product ceritifcation adoption, value addition and access to markets. 📌 Increased value addition with the number of industrial establishments currently over 9,000. 📌 Strengthened @udc_uganda to become a key driver in Uganda's industrialization agenda. 📌 Taken steps to revive the Cooperative Bank by launching the National Cooperative Savings and Credit Society Limited, a precursor of the Cooperative Bank. Among other achievements. /1

3rd Annual Regional Industrialization Conference 2026 launched The @PSF_Uganda in collaboration with the @mtic_uganda, and @AGRA_Africa has launched the 3rd Annual Regional Industrialization Conference 2026. The press launch for the conference took place at Serena Hotel in Kampala. The conference that is scheduled to take place on 18 - 19 August 2026 in Mbarara City, in Western Uganda and will be held under the theme "Unlocking Industrial Competitiveness through Innovation and Regional Value Chain Integration". In her remarks during the launch, the Permanent Secretary, MTIC Ms. @LynetteBagonza, who was represented by the Commissioner for Industry and Technology Mr. Denis Ainebyona noted that Uganda's industrial sector has registered a growth rate of 7% per annum and currently contributes 27.2% of GDP. She noted that Uganda's manufacturing industries have built sufficient capacity to manufacture essential products such as cement, steel, leather products, and ceramics, among others. Ms. Bagonza re-affirmed the Government of Uganda's unwavering commitment to advancing industrialization as a key driver of socio-economic progress. She added that the theme of this year's conference speaks directly to the urgent need for the region to transition from fragmented production systems to more integrated, resilient, and innovation driven industrial ecosystems.

Earlier today, the Minister of State for Trade Hon. Gen. @wilson_mbadi addressed participants at the ongoing 11th Oil and Gas Convention at @spekeresort Gen Mbadi delivered his remarks on the Industrialisation for Uganda's Oil and Gas Sector with a focus on value addition, downstream development, local manufacturing, and linkages between the extractive sector and broader industrial growth. He emphasized the need to forge partnerships that will translate into tangible industrial reality for Uganda, with a vision to produce Oil and at the same time build; factories for energy security, roads with domestic bitumen, farms supplied by local fertilizers, youth employed in modern industry. And that together, we can ensure Uganda's petroleum wealth becomes industrial wealth, productive wealth, and shared national prosperity. He later toured the exhibition stalls that included a wide array of stakeholders active in the oil and gas sector, notably, CNOOC, Total Energies, banks, Insurance firms, Petrochemical conglomerates, equipment suppliers, etc. The two-day Oil and Gas Covention runs for 2 days, from 28th to April 2026, at Munyonyo under the theme: "First Oil, Fulfilling the promise, Forging the future"

The @mtic_uganda has today held a meeting with the delegation of members of the National Defence College of the United Republic of Tanzania who are in Uganda for a study visit. The study visit is focused on harnessing natural wealth for sustainable growth: balancing oil, agriculture, and eco-tourism in a resource-rich developing country. The delegation which is headed by Commodore Baganchwera Traseas Rutambuka wants to learn from Uganda more specifically on how the country is leveraging its natural resources (oil, agriculture, tourism) to drive sustainable economic growth.
