Usec Eric Domingo shares that the confirmed environmental sample was from seqage in Tondo. But the whole Metro Manila drains into this sewage leading to Manila Bay. The environmental samples in Davao were found in a river. #polio

Secretary Duque has confirmed the re-emergence of #polio in the Philippines. There is 1 confirmed polio case in Lanao del Sur and another suspected acute flaccid paralysis case.

Completed a fabulous 2 weeks of genomics implementation training at @RITMPH AMR Surveillance Reference Laboratory in the Philippines. The local team and I are excited as ever as we blitz toward building a full-fledged sustainable genome sequencing suite! @GHRUamr @TheCGPS

While this case turned out not to be caused by #MERS, it is not unexpected that the disease will occasionally appear outside of the Middle East. Local health workers and the @officialdohgov did the right thing in acting rapidly to prevent any further possible spread.

We are relieved to hear that the test results have come back and shown that the man referred to @RITMPH yesterday does not have #MERS. We wish him a speedy recovery.
