@MikeCunningham @AltamontXCTF We do non-verbal. Still have a take-off mark but then it is 4 strides and hand up. Also have a word if the take-off was too early. In everything other than 4x1 - if you don’t have the baton in 4 then the hand-off becomes open.

Is anyone seriously doing silent/non verbal handoffs for the 4x1? I'm curious and want to learn more. Pop in below or the DMs.

If you’re a coach at any level & don’t carry a copy of your sport’s rulebook specific to your level (NCAA, NFHS, etc), you’re not doing your job. When officials don’t know rules you have to show them in real time, especially HS track where a teacher is volunteered to officiate.

Geno Auriemma shares how he explains success to his players and why showing up isn't enough. "If you go to class and you do average work, you're gonna get a C. That's why it's called average." "If you want a B, you have to do more work. If you want an A, you have to do even more work and you have to give up stuff." You get what you earn in life. "You have to sacrifice. Maybe you can't do all the things that everybody else does." It means if you want more then you have to be willing to do more. "If you're just happy getting Bs all your life, there's nothing wrong with that either. But you're never gonna get the satisfaction of what it feels like to get an A." Then he connected it to basketball: "If you just wanna be average, then you do average work. If you wanna be a little bit above average then you do a little more work." "If you wanna get As in basketball, then you gotta do stuff that other people aren't willing to do - especially if you have the talent like we do. We have talent." It means bring a mindset of excellence to everything that you do. Excellence isn't the goal - it's the standard you set. Then he called out the entitlement problem: "Some of these younger guys coming out of high school, man, they wanna show up and go, 'I'm here. Where's my 3.7?'" "Like my father used to say, 'I got your 3.7 right here.'" Showing up doesn't earn you anything. Doing the work does. You get the grade you earn - in school, in basketball, and in life. It's easy to be average...successful people look to compete in everything they do. (🎥UCTV Sports )

@ronsterd89 Totally agree. And they are rude. I’ve had them reach over my cart, move my cart, and never once say excuse me or ask me if they can get through. Drives me crazy!

I was at Walmart earlier and I swear those employees with the big Spark shopping carts that go around picking items for online orders are constantly in the way. One of them had their cart parked sideways across the aisle while they were scanning items, and everyone else had to literally squeeze by just to get through. It amazes me how some people can have zero awareness of the customers around them. The store is already crowded and instead of moving their cart to the side, they just leave it wherever they feel like. At some point that stops being ‘doing your job’ and just turns into bad customer service. Honestly I’m probably going to say something to the front desk next time because if your job is to shop for orders, you should at least do it efficiently and not block entire aisles for everyone else. Am I the only one who notices this or does it drive anyone else crazy too? 🤔

Today I had surgery to repair a torn ACL in my right knee. I can’t say thanks enough to all of the people who prayed & for my team of doctors. My surgeon was a parent of one of my players this year and I’m extremely grateful for his work. Already at home and resting 🙏🤝

“Duties as assigned” in action. Williamsburg AD Nathan King stepped in to direct the pep band at the State Basketball Tourney when their director wasn’t available, making sure students still had the chance to perform and support their team. That’s going above and beyond 4 kids.

@SaraHackbarth I told everyone to enjoy the nice weather because on February 23 it would no longer be nice. When they asked why I thought that, I said I KNEW that because it was the 1st day of track practice…😂😂

@MrDanielBuck It goes beyond MS/HS classrooms. I watched a young lady show up for an interview for a HS position in a mid-top (but only a little stomach was showing) boyfriend jeans and tennis shoes. I honestly just can’t.

This teacher nails it: "How the hell did we collectively land on 'anything goes, including pajamas, crop tops the size of a napkin, and shirts hanging on for dear life?' And let’s stop pretending this has zero connection to school culture. When a kid shows up dressed like they’re headed to a TikTok thirst trap instead of math class, that mindset doesn’t magically switch off at the classroom door."

I was walking the infield before a meet about twelve years ago. Early March. Still cold enough that kids were wearing sweats over their uniforms. I wasn't watching the competition. I was watching my own team. One kid jogging slow laps. One stretching alone by the high jump pit. Two laughing with runners from another school. One sitting on the grass, headphones in, eyes closed. One doing strides way too fast - like he was trying to burn off nerves he didn't know what to do with. Three of them walked up to me at different times in a ten-minute span. "Coach, what should I be doing right now?" I gave them the coach answer. "Get loose. Stay calm. Trust your training." They nodded. Walked away. But I kept watching. And I realized something I hadn't seen before. I had a workout plan for every single day of the season. I had nothing for the 45 minutes before they raced. No structure. No rhythm. No answer to "what does ready look like?" So they wandered. They mimicked whatever the kid next to them was doing. They guessed. And when the gun went off, half of them weren't actually ready — not because they hadn't trained, but because no one had ever told them what to do with the hour that mattered most. That wasn't a them problem. That was a me problem. I had built the engine and forgotten to pave the road to the starting line. Took me another season to fix it. But I never unsee it now.

There used to be a time when the local paper had every single high school call in their scores with complete box scores for every team. Those times were glorious. Now you can't even find final scores and have no idea who the best scorers are if you're not all the way plugged in
