The Islamic Republic has spent decades funding terrorism, exporting instability and openly calling for the destruction of Israel. To recognize that history is not evidence of foreign influence; it is evidence of historical literacy. What troubles me most is not the failure of negotiations. Failed negotiations are as old as diplomacy itself. What troubles me is the growing tendency to dismiss legitimate concerns about a jihadist regime by attributing them to hidden influence, covert campaigns or unseen actors operating behind the curtain.
