Award-winning voice actor Ben Starr has publicly criticized Microsoft following the recent Xbox layoffs, accusing the company of telling employees “multiple lies” before the cuts. Starr, best known for voicing Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, said he spoke to affected employees and claimed many were repeatedly reassured their jobs were safe. “They lied. Multiple times. To multiple people. Repeatedly.”

Those of us who grew up with Bethesda, Bioware, and Obsidian leading the charge on western RPGs eventually found ourselves wowed by the works of CD Projekt Red, Larian, and Warhorse. We kept the light on hoping those former studios would return to their place at the top, but instead they feel replaced by the latter. All good things come to an end I suppose.

According to IGN, recent layoffs at Bethesda Game Studios could further delay The Elder Scrolls VI. The report says that more than 50 employees, including programmers, artists, and designers, were laid off. Some of them were reportedly working on the game. Several employees said that the layoffs have hurt morale. One source said the staff cuts could have a “major cascading effect” on both the game and the studio. Another source said Bethesda has lost a great deal of experience and knowledge, including a developer who had been with the company since The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

Xbox is ‘not healthy’, but losing all of this talent isn’t the cure. bit.ly/3SHtcQw
