@ajf43 I'm a tower of strength. Worry not. Just got to do mighty battle with the rail industry absence management system.

@RPMarks So sorry to hear this. Difficult times for you both. You feel pressure to stay strong, but you need support too. It's OK to be vulnerable, reach out to those who care.

The 20mph is honestly an abomination… I can’t explain how infuriating it is. From the car being like wtf you doing. To having to constantly watch the speed. The plebs who thought this up should have their licence taken away. As clearly they don’t know how to drive.

Rail artefact feature: a broken Midland Railway chair dated 1889. I found it at the former Stroud Road subway on the MR Tuffley loop, Gloucester, about 30 years ago, after part of the retaining wall collapsed. And yes, I do need to repaint my shed.

Over the last 24 hours I have attempted to make a fairy simple journey from London to Wiltshire and back. Two of my trains were cancelled. Of the five I did get on, all were late and one didn’t even make it to my intended (and advertised) destination. Why are rail staff getting pay rises again?

@swtrains_watch @SW_Help One of the problems, in my experience, is that things like PIS systems are specified and procured with little or no input from the local station managers who actually run the stations and know what is needed.

@RPMarks @SW_Help Sure, but it's not overly helpful, is it? Just like the automated announcements playing the same useless loops over and over. This is exactly the kind of basic passenger experience issue that publicly run operators should be fixing to rebuild trust.

Is there anything more frustrating than the "rolling delay" on rail apps and station boards? A train is completely stationary, yet the system just pushes the expected time back 2 minutes, every 2 minutes. How is this artificial guesswork helpful? Just admit it's delayed! @SW_Help

@MarkJLittlewood @SomersetWasBlue @obioneyouknowme You couldn't be more wrong. Train driver wages rose significantly after privatisation, and it was largely driven by market forces. Much cheaper to offer higher £ and attract a qualified driver from elsewhere than to train one from scratch. Also, closed shop is nonsense.

While white Brits are being abused, this “Uncle” and his pals in uniform are busy getting kebabs. You’d like to think this is some sort of community campaign video. Nope, just lunchtime.

Its 30c, you honestly think people would give up their sunday rest day to work in 30c heat? Already had a signal failure at Lancaster.

@HarleysTravels Whatever your views on nationalisation, this is just irellevant candyfloss/flummery. Show me an industry strucure at arms length from DfT control, and I'll begin to take it seriously.

@BMLBod Hmm. The Intercity brand was made available to suitable TOCs in the early privatisation years (because it was apparently indispensible). Only Great Western took it up, and they quickly phased to out when the new brand proved stronger.

No InterCity. It’s one of the strongest brands the railway ever created and they should absolutely resurrect it under GBR. I hope the government doesn’t see it as too linked to BR, because it has definitely transcended it in the public consciousness.
Harleys Travels @HarleysTravels

Funny how there's no Great British Railways | Gatwick Express or Great British Railways | Heathrow Express Does this mean the HX and GX will become part of Great Western and Southern, maybe?

Hi @GWRHelp, what compensation are you offering to passengers who’ve paid £90 to travel on the massively over-booked, standing room only 19:04 train from Paddington to Plymouth? How can you force people to stand for hours when tickets cost so much? Disgusting!

@Clinnick1 @SouthernRailUK Works better on this than it did on the Hitachi mock-up. Still not a big fan though. What I don't get is, if it is based on the union flag, why are there two different shades of blue in the livery?

Pic from John Vaughan of @SouthernRailUK 387172 in GBR livery. My take? I personally wouldn't use a flag at the moment, but I don't hate the livery - there are worse. I just think there are more important issues to deal with around GBR than this.

🚨 HS2 UPDATE 🚨 Transport Sec @Heidi_Labour says most of the HS2 budget was blown without a single meter of track being laid. New estimated cost is £87.7bn - £102.7bn! Partly down to underestimating real cost, also inflation. Trains won't run until May 2036 - Oct 2039!

The day GTR loose the Thameslink franchise cannot come fast enough. Every day there’s some problem so they cancel every service. In fact they operate way too many routes for a smooth service. Give some routes to Southern and Southeastern!
