I’m glad the club is finally considering selling Ferran. And I don’t want to ruin anyone’s excitement about this news, but we have to be realistic, we’ve been down this road before. The club has already considered selling him in the past, but the player refused to leave. And there’s a strong chance it happens again. As long as he’s under contract, there’s unfortunately nothing the club can do to force him out.

Playing Martin at center-back instead of left-back is probably the best thing that’s happened to his career. His entire skillset fits the CB role much more than fullback, especially in our system. At left-back, he was asked to carry the whole flank offensively on his own, which exposed his limitations and made his performances look much worse than they actually are. It was a role that didn’t suit his strengths at all. As a center-back, everything makes more sense. His passing is more valuable in build-up, he defends in better and more natural positions, and even his pace, while not ideal for a fullback, is perfectly fine for a CB. Add to that his aerial ability, and it becomes clear that this is his natural position. The only real thing you lose by playing him at CB is his crossing. But in return, you maximize almost every other aspect of his game.
