For the last two weeks we hosted a group of students from the Institute of Radiological Emergency Medicine (IREM) at Hirosaki University. The program included lectures, laboratory experiments and of course a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a great experience!

This week we taught a module on environmental radioactivity for the undergraduate class on Environmental Health Field Methods Class. The students got to use gamma spectrometry to identify an unknown sample and sampled radon in air and in soil.

It is important to note that the radioactive water was released into the soil at the treatment plant and not directly into the ocean.
