@RTB_II @ChrisGordy Not sure who everyone else is referring to but the SEC plays 9 conference games this year so that’s inherently false…. At least get your facts straight.

@ArkanSooner @ChrisGordy Objectively more challenging than scheduling FCS and G6 teams in that time slot, no? Also- I don’t get to pick the schedule. TCU and OSU should be top 25 quality teams this year, I wish the others were too.

@unwornlyric @JoshPateCFB @TheDaveRainey They haven’t and still won’t. The list of positives is long. The list of negatives is short. The list of teams positively affected is long. The list of teams negatively affected is non existent. Not acknowledging a single positive aspect of this is just being mad on purpose

@RTB_II @JoshPateCFB @TheDaveRainey Lmao no there are not 😂😂. Its only negatives expanding the playoffs. Not a single positive. Expansion only satisfies the programs that are ranked below 12 rn. Then it renders the last month of the regular season useless. Watch all the teams sit starters during rivalry week

@iAmCLPN @Dawgs198 @JoshPateCFB @TheDaveRainey I never said I didn’t like what I watch. But I do believe a playoff that crowns a legit champion determined on the field and not in the polls enhances what I watch. I like very much what I watch. I’ve also said my whole life it doesn’t make any sense to not have a playoff.

@pcdebol @RTB_II No it would just mean 8-4 teams can get in so the regular season would be nearly pointless

@geoffschwartz Ok, to the OP- why not make the citrus bowl a playoff game? Then you get to tell donors and recruits, “we won the citrus bowl, and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. With your help we aim to go even further next year.” Playoffs can bring legitimacy back to these bowls.

Thank you. I’ve made this point for years. Making a playoff is a realistic goal for a handful of teams. I hate that winning 9 or 10 games seems frowned upon if you’re not in the playoff.
Bud Elliott@BudElliott3

For a lot of programs, 9-3 or 8-4 is not mediocrity. It is a top-quintile outcome. It is a season fans remember. It is a season that gets a coach an extension, wakes up donors, helps recruiting, and makes people believe the program is moving. In the old bowl ecosystem, those seasons had somewhere to go. The Citrus Bowl, Gator Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Sun Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Outback Bowl, Peach Bowl, Music City Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, Pinstripe Bowl, and a bunch of others could mean different things to different programs. They were not all equal, and they were not all national-title-adjacent. But they gave teams a postseason reward that fit the scale of what that program had accomplished. That is what the playoff era damaged. The sport did not merely create a better championship mechanism. It centralized almost all postseason meaning into one event. ESPN, as the CFP’s exclusive rights holder, helped build and promote that hierarchy. ESPN and the CFP extended their exclusive relationship through the 2031-32 season, including rights to the playoff games, selection show, weekly rankings shows, and related programming. That is not just broadcasting the sport. That is defining the sport’s value system. So when people say, “Why is Team 19 making the playoff better than Team 19 going to the Citrus Bowl?” the answer is: because there was a time when the Citrus Bowl carried real status. So did a lot of other bowls, depending on the program. But the sport spent a decade telling everyone that anything outside the CFP is meaningless. The meaning moved. And once the meaning moves, the access point has to move with it.

@SECSupremacyCFB @pcdebol The pros to a 24 team playoff outweigh the cons by a large margin. Realignment did more damage to the regular season and everything that made the old version of college football awesome than playoffs ever could. SEC was the driver of that bus too.

@RTB_II @pcdebol My position against (1000% against, never supporting it, will personally hate, slander, and attack anyone who does) the 24 team playoff has nothing to do with my like for the SEC. I just want college football to remain awesome.

@SECSupremacyCFB @pcdebol Shifting landscapes take time for lagging indicators to present themselves. I think it’s obvious that the talent is less concentrated than ever and that’s a good thing. The SEC historically dominated for most of my lifetime. Now things are changing.

@RTB_II @pcdebol Why are you only using last year? Seems like cherry picking to me. If you take the entire NIL era, the SEC has the highest winning percentage vs other P4 conferences.

"LEt'S kEeP tHe rEgULaR sEaSOn SPeCiAL" What a riveting run to the title game for 2018 or Alabama (Before getting smoked by Clemson). Not ONE game was "special". CFB has always been about just having the best regular season record regardless of schedule to get the invite to the playoff. That doesn't make the regular season great - if anything it made it worse

@SECSupremacyCFB @pcdebol So when the SEC loses out of conference in bowl season they claim it’s because bowls don’t matter. When someone suggests we expand the playoff to make more postseason games matter- SEC is the biggest critic. Super weird coincidence.

@bucks22173613 @JoshPateCFB @TheDaveRainey I’ve been a college football fan for 25+ years. I don’t love everything going on right now, but there’s never been more parity (positive) and we’re closer than ever to having a more objective method of crowning a champion than subjective one. Chill out, Buck. It’s gonna be ok.

Thomas Massie just revealed that Pete Hegseth is going to Kentucky to personally campaign against him. “This shows how serious it is to the global elites that I lose.” “The Secretary of War may be coming to my district to campaign against me.” “During a war.” “And that’s why it’s so serious that I do win.” “If there’s gonna be any hope in Washington, DC.” “If there’s gonna be anybody that ever challenges the narrative, whether it’s on war or immunity for companies, whether they’re data centers or pesticide manufacturers.” Clayton Morris: “It’s one big uniparty.” “And when you call out the corruption machine, they don’t like that.” “Because they’ve been duping the American people for so long.” @RepThomasMassie @MassieforKY @ClaytonMorris

@JoshPateCFB @TheDaveRainey There’s way more pros than cons to an expanded playoff system IMO. Every other level of football has figured it out and it’s awesome at those levels. I believe FBS can do that also- I think it could save bowl season, AND it adds value to the reg season for 95% of the sport.
