Forces are now “ready to act.” Some tankers have begun diverting away from the English Channel (taking longer routes north of Scotland), though many continue to pass through. No boardings have been publicly reported yet. How Russia might respond if the UK starts boarding: Moscow has called the move a “deeply hostile” act. Russia’s ambassador and Kremlin officials have warned that “appropriate measures are being drawn up” and threatened retaliation.
