@KristinAndrewz Consciousness is likely continuous, not binary. Everything from phospholipids to humans falls on the spectrum. But the idea of "shifting the Null" breaks the fundamental logic behind the Null in science; you can't prove a negative. We can shift the prior but not the Null.

Deeply saddened by the passing of Ian Stirling. They say science is built on the shoulders of giants; Ian was one of mine. So many opportunities I've had were enabled by his pioneering work. His legacy will continue to influence research and conservation for generations.

@AEDerocher @birdsoftheworld Bonus is that observations go into @Team_eBird database and is used by scientists to study species distributions. For some rare species, citizen science can provide more valuable data than systematic surveys.

I confess to being a lazy birder so the @birdsoftheworld app is a game changer. I bought bird song CDs decades ago but never mastered them. Today’s exploring was greatly aided by the app: I knew some participants but not all. Highly recommended!

The research I did during my MSc at @CREEM_cake is out as a preprint!
We (myself, @TheoMichelot and @len_thom) worked on a model that merges hidden Markov models with step selection functions (the HMM-SSF).
