ICU Patient Story - Olga Barry In March 2023, Olga fell seriously ill, leading to a 10-week journey through three hospitals and ICUs. Diagnosed with pneumonia, sepsis, and a previously undiagnosed heart condition, she faced life-saving interventions, including a tracheostomy and open-heart surgery. Throughout her recovery, she was moved by the kindness, patience, and dedication of healthcare staff, despite challenges like delirium, exhaustion, and navigating a strained healthcare system. Her story highlights the humanity and resilience within Ireland’s hospitals.
