NEW 🔴Our latest data shows that 1910 Land and #EnvironmenalDefenders were killed globally between 2012 and 2022. They were killed after trying to protect their rights to their land aand to a healthy environment.

I'm deeply alarmed by the sentences handed to climate activists today over peaceful protests. I agree with the UN Special Rapporteur that this "marks a very dark day for fundamental human rights in the UK" I'll be raising this and our draconian anti-protest laws in Parliament.

Just one of the outstandingly ignorant things Judge Hehir said to the defendants during the trial. He refused to listen their reasons for their actions, he ignored climate scientists, and he gave harsh sentences. I will speak on this in the Lords next Weds.

Warning civilians to flee -- particularly when they have absolutely no where to go -- does not absolve a party from complying with the ban on deliberately or indiscriminately targeting civilians.
