The Anglo-Saxons have so thoroughly won the game of civilization that the rest of the world has spent the last decade coming up with convoluted moral arguments as to why they and theirs are entitled to live in and benefit from the Anglosphere countries.

What they loved was Marjorie Kellogg's story and writing, but my adaptation was good. What I was proudest of was my directing, which definitely worked. I went on to write a dozen or more plays, half of which were produced, most notably Stone Tables, an adaptation of the book of Exodus, which I wrote while a missionary for the LDS Church in Brazil. I sent it to Dr. Whitman just to get his reaction. It was in free verse, which I knew was weird. I was shocked when his response was a letter saying, "Where's the rest of it? I need it right away because we're putting it on this winter." Well, the rest of it didn't exist, since I had wanted his response in case I needed to drastically revise. Instead of explaining, I simply finished the whole five acts, typed it up, and sent it to him. Because it was in verse, many passages looked like song lyrics, so he engaged my friend Robert Stoddard to compose the score to what was now a musical. Robert had written the score to our polygamy musical, Father, Mother, Mother, and Mom, so he was definitely the right choice -- only I never knew it was even going to be a musical until shortly before the opening. Because it was a small combo, word spread at this conservative Mormon school in 1972 that it was a "rock musical," which many people thought meant it would be wicked and sacrilegious. It was not, nor was the music "rock." It was Stoddard!

Why I Began to Write I never aspired to be a career writer. I entered college as an archeology major. But within months I realized I didn't want to DO archeology, but rather to read books by those who did. Instead, I was spending all my time in the theatre department, trying out for and acting in plays. I soon noticed that not all scripts were particularly good, and I particularly disliked the adaptation of Daniel Keyes's story and novel Flowers For Algernon (Charly). As assistant director of the play, I asked Charles Whitman, the faculty director of the main-stage production, if I could try my hand at writing a better adaptation of the second half. He said I could try. So, in the stupid arrogance of youth, I wrote my version in longhand and my mom typed it up, all before the second night of auditions.

Due to the uniformity, design, and color of the titles on the bookshelves in Goodnight Moon I am forced to assume that the bunny is getting a Greek & Latin education through the Loeb Classical Library.

The weirdest thing when I got accused in the mid-90s of working on the diabolic game "Doom" is that you spend literally all your time trying to destroy demons. Also I hate this picture of me because I was about 30 lbs fatter.
