The crazy turn of events between OpenAI and Anthropic last night.
Anthropic tells the Pentagon:
- no autonomous weapons
- no mass surveillance of Americans
Trump's response:
- called them "leftwing nut jobs"
- banned them from every federal agency
- threatened criminal consequences
- gave them 6 months to comply
On the same day:
Sam Altman calls the DoW
- strikes a deal
- deploys OpenAI models on classified networks
- same two restrictions anthropic got ridiculed for written into the contract
- DoW signs without argument
then publicly asks the government to offer every AI company the same deal.
Anthropic got nuked for a position the Pentagon just agreed to twice.
Did OpenAI know about this all along?
