@TrialNz I’m not sure if I dread the anchor drop more or the wide gate hard restrain back to clear last right out of the gates, but I know I hate them both. At least the restrain is an overreaction to bad situation, whereas the drop is often just freely giving away a positive position.

@TRGMikeWood Because NZ fillies often come to Sydney off the back of long campaigns building towards the Oaks from spring and through summer, my impression has been they run better at their first Aussie run and can often trail off from there in terms of ratings.

Don't know what to make of OHOPE WINS in the Oaks. The case for: - Back to 2400m, big track, more tempo, G1 winner The case against: - Final 200m in Vinery nothing amazing after James got her going early - NZ Derby winner ROAD TO PARIS (similar form) beaten 8L in the ATC Derby 🤔

@K_Smith_NZ I think moving up wider from the 600 was the logical. The options taken instead looked rather less logical

@EthanOnTrack I actually backed at different pair at the same odds in both races-R2 I went with Pure Bars who was big in a similar race last start after doing some work mid race. In the Oaks I backed Fly Zenno as she looks very dour and the step up to 2400m may offset the class edge favs have

Two horses I want to mention that I think will run better than the price suggests @ HQ Saturday.. R2 - Perfectmanz - $18.00/$3.50 Top4 R8 - Ariadne - $34.00/$4.80 Top4 Perfectmanz last run seems to have been overlooked. Traveled very well in to the race before the jockey made the wrong 50/50 choice, running in to a brick wall at the 200m. Otherwise he'd be running home the quickest L600 IMO. He'll need luck but I think you'll get a sight for the odds. Ariadne, the one time Oaks futures favourite, improved sharply last start when hitting the front early before being headed late by an impressive rival. We've seen Roger & Robert sharply improve horses, just look at the stable mate/race rival LS. Blinkers on, good draw to posy up and a horse whos peaking at the right time. Fav possibly a freak but a sense of timing with this filly and overs in the market IMO. #NZRacing

Saturday Wanganui R2 - Basel Warrior - $4.00 I reckon they've put up the wrong price here, Basel Warrior finally got the win last start after a luckless couple of starts prior. He meets Sindee ($2.05 fav) under the same conditions as LS, a horse he put 2.8L on. Yes it can favour those on pace here but in the small field that shouldn't be an issue.

See they are having a fairly sizable crack at Dark Toronado in R3, a fair maiden 1300m at Trentham. Debut 5th was alot better than it looked and trial winner since. Was a follow out of our 'On the Nose' podcast'. Encouraged.
