What proportion of UK autistic girls get referred to GIDS each year? The UK Gender Identity Development Service has stopped collecting data on autism for their children (judge was shocked at this!) but in a recent year they identified 35% with moderate to severe autism 1/3

This ET decision is quite widely misunderstood, so let's try and clear it up. Short 🧵

@MaeveHalligan significant minority of ALL autistic girls, maybe 1/4, maybe a bit less but those are only the referred ones. 60-80% of those are Lesbian so that could be more than half. And if you are an autistic young lesbian under the care system, basically you ARE GOING to gender clinic.

I have written to Mark Rowley, the Met Police Commissioner, urging him to retract his baseless claims about our demonstrations for Palestine. Our marches are made of people of all faiths and none — and we will never stop campaigning until Palestine is free.

So for Labour to have any chance in the future, we need a new leader this summer, ways for those on the left who were excluded to rejoin, then a real leadership contest hopefully before 2029. Laura Pidcock would be good.

The Prime Minister says his government has got "the big political decisions right". Let's go through them. The government chose to cut welfare so it could spend even more on weapons and war. The government chose to demonise the sick and disabled. The government chose to keep children in poverty until it was dragged kicking and screaming to finally scrap the two-child benefit cap. The government chose not to bring water into public ownership, not to tax wealth and not to implement rent controls. The government chose to arm Israel and participate in genocide. The government chose to let the US use British air bases for its war crimes in Iran. The government chose to let Palantir get its hands on our NHS. The government chose to scapegoat migrants and refugees for its own failures. Poverty, inequality and genocide. Those are the government's big decisions. And that is how this government will be remembered.

The question is, should the next Secretary General of the United Nations be a woman, or someone of less merit?

It isn’t humiliating at all, it’s to be completely expected: testosterone is very powerful. It doesn’t mean women are bad or less capable or unskilled. It just means that men & women’s sport is very different, based on biology, and so is played separately.

Apparently our local Council have said that if any Reform councillors actually get in this week, then they will make sure lots of HMOs get approved just in that ward. OR am I getting that mixed up?

@sharrond62 Sharron please correct your major error here, there are about 80 trans males in prison for sexual offences (which is at least equal to male offending rates), NOT 24,000 of them! : x.com/i/status/16115…

@sharrond62 Sharron it is over half of all trans identifying male prisoners who are in for sexual assault, NOT half of all trans identifying men!!! Ofc they commit sexual offenses at at least male rates, but it is still a tiny minority of them who are in prison, like it is for men overall.

Over 50% of trans identifying men are in prison for sexual assault against women. And statistically their figures are higher for sexual assault than non trans identifying males. So we must must must must deal in truth not an ideology that puts men above female safeguarding.

Words to live by: “You do you and I will continue to do me”. Nobody’s entitled to political purity from JKR or from anybody else.

But that's *all the time* in public discourse.

No, I don't think 'all people should have the right to decide their own rights', because a pluralistic democratic society can't function that way. Which rights are trans women and 'fans of Pride' missing?

Yes, the people who call themselves 'trans' exist and they deserve exactly the same rights as everyone else, which, fortunately, they already have in the UK. It would rightly be considered discrimination if a person was refused employment, housing or the vote because they identified as trans. 'Trans women are women' is a thought-terminating cliché. Men are not women. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to present themselves however they like, call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. It means they haven't changed sex. If we replace the objective, observable characteristic of sex with the unfalsifiable concept of gender identify, women and girls lose, among other things, their right to fair and safe sport and women-only spaces, including changing rooms, prison cells and rape crisis services. Women and girls are provably more vulnerable to forms of abuse including sexual assault, harassment and voyeurism in mixed-sex spaces. There is no evidence that trans-identified men don't have exactly the same rates of criminal offending as all other men. Trans people exist. I have no desire for them not to exist; indeed, I wish them safety, happiness and health. However, 'existence' does not, and should not, mean the violation of other people's right to privacy, dignity and freedom of speech, or the reconfiguration of society to indulge a fallacy.
