🌴 The Unseen Cost of Your Snack: Palm Oil's Trail of Destruction 🌴 You know that creamy spread on your toast or that shampoo that promises a silky mane? Well, there's a chance they're part of a global drama, featuring deforestation, endangered species, and a plot twist where we're all unwittingly playing the villains. The Palm Oil Paradox: Palm oil - it's in everything, from your pizza dough to your lipstick. But this ubiquitous ingredient has a dark side darker than a black hole in a galaxy far, far away. Here's what's happening: - Wildlife on the Edge: Orangutans, those wise, orange philosophers of the jungle, are losing their homes faster than a spaceship at light speed. Fewer than 80,000 remain, and every day, their living rooms are being converted into palm plantations. And it's not just them; Sumatran tigers, elephants, and a myriad of other species are facing the ultimate eviction notice. - Habitat Havoc: Imagine if every time you wanted a bigger garden, you just bulldozed your neighbour's house. That's palm oil for you, turning diverse ecosystems into monoculture wastelands. Over 32 million acres of forest have said goodbye, all for palm oil plantations. - Climate Calamity: Those forests weren't just pretty; they were carbon sinks. Now, they're being burned or decomposed, releasing CO2 like a cosmic belch, contributing to climate change. - The Human Element: Local communities and indigenous people? Their rights and livelihoods are often trampled like last season's fashion trends. But Why Should You Care? Because this isn't just about distant jungles or exotic animals. This is about the kind of world we're crafting. Every product with palm oil is a vote for the future - one where we might have to explain to kids what an orangutan was, through VR simulations because reality ran out of them. What Can You Do? - Read Labels: If it says palm oil, think twice. Look for sustainable options or products without it. - Spread Awareness: Like a good virus, but for good. Share the knowledge, not just the memes. - Support Change: Back initiatives and policies that push for sustainable palm oil or alternatives. Remember, every time you choose a product, you're not just a consumer; you're an influencer of planetary proportions. So, let's make choices that don't leave our wildlife starring in a real-life tragedy. #PalmOilFree #SaveWildlife #SustainableChoices #OrangutanOrphanages #EcoWarrior

French judge Nicolas Gouyou, who issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu at the ICC: • Visa and Mastercard have blocked all my cards • I cannot make any purchases • I am a judge, yet treated like a criminal • Judges, lawyers, and politicians are being intimidated • A colleague told me my name won’t be removed from the blacklist until Trump’s term ends • Despite intervention by the French president, U.S. authorities have not responded

"We are losing biodiversity at a rate unparalleled in human history." Global wildlife populations have sunk over 60% since 1970. We are destroying ourselves and taking nature with us. Time to protect people and the planet. #ActOnClimate #climate #biodiversity #nature

The UK is running out of drinking water. Yes, really. The UK is one of the wettest countries in Europe. Yet by 2055, England could face a 5 billion litre daily water shortfall without urgent action. So how did we get here? We have spent decades over-abstracting our rivers, draining wetlands, and failing to build new reservoirs. At the same time, temperatures are rising, droughts are becoming more frequent, and demand for water continues to grow. When it does rain, our landscapes no longer hold water as they should. Hardened cities, deforested hills, and degraded soils send water rushing into the sea - often causing floods along the way. But there is hope. With the right leadership and investment, this crisis is solvable. We can fix leaking pipes, restore wetlands, reduce abstraction, reuse water, and work with nature to store it in the landscape. What we need now is urgent action. It is time to declare a national freshwater emergency and deliver a funded plan to secure our water future. Because if we don’t act now, Britain will run dry. #WorldWaterDay

@BladeoftheS Yes, it's true. I did a comparison in Aldi yesterday. Cadbury is heavily discounted now (maybe not selling so much?) to 99p per 100g & has 20% cocoa. Own brand Aldi chocolate is £1.09 per 100g and is 32% cocoa. Huge difference!! They have a wide range of chocolate bars as well.

This is the “stage 1” letter sent to a 17 year old in the first year of college. No matter what your views, this is sinister as hell and we should all be concerned for our children. They are growing up in an environment where their speech is heavily policed. My son’s current project focusses, rather ironically, on 1984. He’s writing a short film based on a compliant side character living in the world Orwell created. We listened to the audible play/reading recently and he was struck at modern day parallels. Note the mention of how his “abhorrent ideological” speech affects staff, the use of words like diatribe and preaching. We cannot allow this authoritarian shit to continue. RE: Positive Behaviour Management Policy – First Written Warning Dear xxxx, The purpose of this letter is to confirm you had a meeting on 19 March at 12:00 with xxxx xxxx to discuss your recent behaviour on 17 March which broke the following rules of the Positive Behaviour Management Policy. Respectful - Students are expected to respect people, value diversity and are committed to equality ensuring a positive and professional learning environment in which all people are treated with respect and dignity. It is the responsibility of everyone to behave in a safe manner and not put themselves or others at risk. Collaborative - It is the responsibility of students to engage with WCUC staff and other students to develop positive relationships and work together to promote an active group learning environment. This requires them to be on time, in the right place, correctly equipped and ready to learn in all classes. You’ve received this letter because of the following behaviour: • You were caught talking at xxxx, xxxx and xxxx about your ideological views - you were midway through a diatribe on why being part of the LGBTQIA+ community should be considered a mental illness/condition I have since had a meeting with you, making it absolutely clear that making comments like that is deeply offensive and ideologically abhorrent and in no way appropriate to be preaching within the walls of the college. We talked about what effect saying such things may have on your peers, and staff. You were receptive to the feedback and promised that you would not talk this way in college again. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that this written warning will remain active on your student record for the duration of 3 months after which they can become spent but will remain on your student record. Yours Sincerely, Mr Course teacher
Kellie-Jay Keen@ThePosieParker

My son just got a written warning from college for a private conversation discussing trans shit with friends. I reckon I’m about to go scorched earth on these twats.

@ZackPolanski Isn't it a strange coincidence, that every time there are big price rises, that the wealth of the super rich, massively grows. All those higher prices you pay go somewhere, and it is into the pockets of the very rich, and ordinary people get poorer.
