Totally agree with you @OdedRechavi. What @ERC_Research is trying to do here is simply #wrong
Also, once a committee has identified, for example, the top 10%, I am convinced a bit of random selection would work just as well as the current final selection, and save time

Announced by the ERC today (really bad news for science!!! It starts in Europe but will affect everybody) Because the REVIEWING LOAD is so bad, if your application fails you may need to wait mulitple years (>3?!?) until you can submit again! The ERC is the lifeline of the leading labs in Europe, so many research programs will be terminated (just no other sources to compensate). The letter from the ERC says “the only way is to reduce applications” (highlighted in the picture below) No!!! It's the wrong direction. Use AI to assist review. It’s not perfect (yet), but it allows more proposals to be evaluated, and it could support, not replace, human reviewers.

I don’t know if you saw the MASSIVE news announced by @ERC_Research today: from now on,if you get a B at step 1 you are eligible to apply at N+3(!!!) years. Say you got a B in STG2026 step 1, you thought you could apply in STG2028, but no: only in STG2029! erc.europa.eu/news-events/ne…

I'm pleased to share a recent study from myself and @JamesKaufman. We used instructional prompts to guide participants through the creative problem-solving process. They improved solution creativity, and the effect was mediated by engagement.

Our paper is out! This has been years in the making.
We found that mental imagery and perception do share a neural substrate, but we see it in in higher-order transmodal networks rather than earlier sensory systems. Check it out!
