Not what I expected to wake up to this morning. Utter madness. The biggest message yet if we were in any doubt of direction of the party. Chambers too, but at 77, refusing to step aside.I'm seeing unionist panic...there will be pacts galore to prevent the change that people want.

I have never been a fan of Keir Starmer as Prime Minister. Top politicians need to realise it’s not just the message, but how you sell it that cuts through to the public psyche. His policies may well have been among the best for the country and some undoubtedly were but Sir Keir never seemed able to land them with the public. Voters rarely reward policies they don’t emotionally connect with. Yesterday’s reset speech didn’t help. What exactly was he trying to tell us. Now, in what could be the death throes of his tenancy in No 10 after less than two years at the top, I do find myself feeling for him. He pulled himself up by his bootstraps and reached not one but two of the highest offices in the land. So, as the wannabes circle the Cabinet table this morning, positioning for what may come next, spare a thought for a man who genuinely wanted to make a difference, but never quite mastered the art of making his case. Fair?

Last week's election results leave no doubt: the UK state is destabilised and Nigel Farage is sadly likely to become Prime Minister. In these circumstances, a responsible Irish government must be planning for change here. My Irish Times piece today: irishtimes.com/opinion/2026/0…

@mclaren_linzi @GarethBurns18 Is this because Doug is the biggest personality in the party? Suggests insecurity on the leaders part.

⁉️💥NEW: 'God forbid Nigel Farage becomes Prime Minister. Unionism needs to stop looking backwards. Partition has failed.' 🎤🎥First Minister @moneillsf tells Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 that the prospect of Nigel Farage becoming Prime Minister is extremely worrying. Reform UK has made major gains at the expense of Labour in the English council elections. There are now pro-independence parties in power in Scotland with the SNP, and Plaid Cymru in Wales. The First Minister also made clear she is willing to work with pro-independence parties in the future. Joined by MPs @patcullen9 and @johnfinucane at Stormont.

🗣💥NEW: 'I think Nigel Farage is a grifter. Unionist politicians fanboying him. He's a clickbait politician. He won’t be Prime Minister.' 🚫@allianceparty Leader @naomi_long tells Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 that she believes Nigel Farage is not a serious politician and will not become Prime Minister. She was asked whether she could work with the Reform UK leader, and what that could mean for Northern Ireland. Reform UK has made major gains at the expense of Labour in the English council elections. There are now pro-independence parties in power in Scotland with the SNP, and Plaid Cymru in Wales.

Look at the results in… Wigan Sunderland Grimsby St Helens Hartlepool And THIS is the response? Utter contempt for working class people. These people are destroying Labour.
Ben Judah@b_judah

The economy sick and the left split, Labour is set to lose the next election. There is only one lever left to pull. I argue in @TheTimes at the next election Labour must campaign to Rejoin. Voters are there: 59% polled this week are ready to return. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Editor's note: Yes Reform won the most seats But its national equivalent vote share was 27%. That's LOWER than last year And come a general election it will face widespread tactical voting because many voters really don't want Farage as PM
Robert Jenrick@RobertJenrick

Historic. That's the only word for it. Wigan has been Labour since 1918; the council run by Labour since its creation. Reform won 24 of the 25 seats up there. There were likewise HUGE Reform gains in: Sunderland, Halton, St Helens, Hull, Hartlepool, Tameside, Sheffield, Barnsley, Grimsby, and Gateshead. The Red Wall has collapsed. Nigel Farage has built a Teal Wall in its stead. Countless towns that have been Labour since WW1 are now Reform. But what makes today truly historic is that everywhere else was equally seismic. In the Conservative heartlands? Reform won 53 of the 73 seats up in Essex. Over half the seats in Suffolk. And gained 38 seats in Norfolk. In Middle England? There were massive Reform gains in Tamworth, Thurrock, Newcastle under Lyme, Cannock Chase, Havering, and Lincolnshire. And strong results in Birmingham, Southampton, Portsmouth, Peterborough, Redditch, and Gosport. And, of course, a sensational result in Wales. Reform, the official opposition. Labour, relegated to minor party status. What would Nye Bevan make of that? What does Neil Kinnock? And a strong showing in Scotland too. Why has all this happened?

Quite simply, a majority across Britain have had enough. Of Starmer and Labour. But also of the state of Britain. Of the open borders, stagnant wages, dilapidated high streets, and broken public services. The majority has had enough of the weak leadership we’ve had over the last few decades.

When he returned nearly two years ago, Nigel Farage raised the standard. He declared the need for real change. And today, just like last year, millions right across Britain rallied to him. In the Welsh Valleys and in Lothian. In Lancashire and Nottinghamshire. Across Yorkshire and the Midlands; the East and South East.

What happens now? Get Starmer Out; the slogan will become the reality. Already, senior Labour MPs are publicly demanding he commits to quitting. And then a Labour leadership contest, where all the candidates will compete over who can do the best Zack Polanski impression. Starmer has been the worst PM of my lifetime, but what comes next could be even worse. Today’s results give me hope. A Britain-wide majority for change is emerging and has rallied behind Reform. But I am scared of what Labour & Polanski might inflict on us next. And that's why we mustn't let up for a second. Back Reform. Save Britain. 🇬🇧

@FraserNelson You can’t break out students. Student visas are a backdoor way of staying here. I refer you to the ‘student’ with no residence who has just been elected at Holyrood.

Break out students, and below shows the UK immigration story. Latest data only takes us to June last year: it will have fallen further since. Basic net migration is probably at a multi-year low already. Why doesn't Starmer say so? comment.press/brown

@williamnhutton Rejoining the EU is a stupid idea. Their demands, including loss of the pound, will ruin us. MUCH better to have a government that will make Brexit work.

Changing Prime Minister in mid-parliament only works if there is a decisive break with what went before and the bravery to pursue big ideas. Rejoining the EU always made economic and strategic sense. Now it makes political sense.
George Eaton@georgeeaton

How does Labour recover? Rather than chasing Reform and the Greens, the party must reclaim the radical centre – and a pledge to rejoin the EU is its best hope of building a winning coalition. My piece for @ArguablyMag on the lessons of the elections. arguably.uk/p/how-does-lab…

I’m English, & so moved by this spontaneous rendition of the Welsh national anthem, at this new dawn for their country. The three Celtic nations of these islands are standing up, with malice toward none, and embracing all with love. Something in my eye.

It was a pleasure to speak with Michelle O’Neill, Mary Lou McDonald and John Swinney today. The potential of Wales, Scotland and Ireland each having First Ministers who believe in the right of their people to self-determination represents a historic moment for these islands 1/2

Keir Starmer should stay on. This is the final chance. But for fucks sake, hire a digital team who understands social media, which is where Reform is winning support and subsequently winning elections. As one Labour voter told me recently: “Where the hell even are they?”
