Anyone can be a victim of domestic or sexual violence and abuse, irrespective of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or background. Men often not only find it harder to come forward, due to stigma, but to be taken seriously and access the support services they need.

She was speaking after it was announced that Northern Ireland will receive £17m from the Government’s £53m package to support households struggling with the cost of heating oil. It means households here could receive around £35 in support. She says quick action needs to be taken to ensure that support is delivered and targeted towards the most vulnerable. In terms of what proper support would look like, the Finance Minister said it should resemble the support provided when Russia invaded Ukraine.

They were at Stormont today as Justice Minister @naomi_long brought forward the Sentencing Bill. The Bill will introduce “Charlotte’s Law”, which aims to reduce the trauma experienced by families of murder victims in so-called “no body” cases. It would create a statutory aggravator for failing to disclose the location of a victim’s remains, as well as new sentence reductions for post-sentence disclosures. Lisa, aged 25, went missing from a caravan park in Co Down in February 2005. Her body has never been found. A string of recent arrests has given the family renewed hope, and Joanne welcomed the opportunity to be at Stormont today to speak about the Bill. @letsfindlisa

When someone’s been a party leader for a long time and the party starts slipping back a bit there’s bound to be speculation about change. Same happened in SDLP.

@ballymaghan It isn't, no. It was developed with families' input and goes beyond other jurisdictions. However, I agree that it should have happened sooner: if others hadn't repeatedly pulled the institutions down, it would have been. That's why I want reform.
