At Lightning Surge 2, alongside the 25th ID, CPE C2IN, and our industry partners @LockheedMartin, @accel1nt, and Rune Technologies, we put the @USArmy NGC2 fighting prototype to the test. Raft Data Platform and Raft AI Mission System served as the unified data layer and AI backbone inside that prototype. During the exercise, electronic warfare targeting data, live drone video, positional feeds, and battle damage assessments were ingested and fused in real time through Raft Data Platform; eliminating manual cross-system reconciliation and delivering a unified, mission-ready operational picture to soldiers at the tactical edge. Through Raft AI Mission System, soldiers issued voice commands to automate fires workflows, accelerating airspace deconfliction, target validation, and clearance processes that traditionally require layered coordination. The result was compressed time-to-shoot under live-fire stress. As HIMARS and M777 artillery executed missions, ammunition expenditure updated live and linked directly to sustainment systems, giving commanders real-time visibility into combat power and predictive resupply requirements during active engagements. Lightning Surge 2 demonstrated a complete, integrated sensor-to-shooter thread and validated that a hardware- and data-agnostic architecture, operationalized with AI-powered workflows, materially reduces latency, integrates best-of-breed technologies, and performs under real operational complexity at the tactical edge. For decades, the military has faced the same problem: systems, hardware, COPs, and teams that don’t talk to each other. Operators manually move data between multiple systems just to piece together the fight. That’s the status quo today. Now put that same process in a contested environment where networks are unreliable, systems lose connection, and the information operators rely on can disappear without warning, when the mission is at stake and lives are on the line. Enter the @USArmy Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) initiative. During Lightning Surge 1 and 2, Raft Data Platform and Raft AI Mission System powered the @25thID NGC2 fighting prototype. Raft Data Platform ([R]DP) is the data integration layer, ingesting and fusing multi-domain battlefield data, including electronic warfare targeting, live drone video, positional feeds, and battle damage assessments, into a unified, mission-ready operating picture. Raft AI Mission System ([R]AIMS) is the AI backbone, transforming that data into contextualized information through AI-powered workflows and voice-enabled agentic perception that accelerated decision loops at the tactical edge. Together, [R]DP and [R]AIMS enabled real-time sensor-to-shooter execution. Soldiers cleared airspace, cued fires, and executed HIMARS and M777 artillery engagements using live battlefield data. [R]DP and [R]AIMS also enabled predictive sustainment, tracking ammunition consumption in real time and forecasting resupply needs tied directly to combat operations. As we prepare for Lightning Surge 2, it’s worth revisiting what Lightning Surge 1 proved in the Pacific. The objective of Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) is making decisions faster than our adversaries. Raft Data Platform ([R]DP) and Raft AI Mission System ([R]AIMS) were built to achieve that. During Lightning Surge 1, electronic warfare data, UAS-derived position location information, and air domain feeds were ingested and synchronized through Raft Data Platform ([R]DP), in terrain where future conflict is inevitable. Raft Data Platform translated and federated that data across systems in real-time, forming a resilient edge-first, foundation. On top of that foundation, Raft AI Mission System enabled real-time SALUTE and contact reporting, allowing commanders to monitor down to the platoon level and accelerate decision-making. A sensor-to-shooter workflow executed end-to-end. The @25thID industry team, @LockheedMartin, Raft, @Accelint, and Rune Technologies worked side-by-side with soldiers in the Pacific, refining workflows as the system operated in real terrain under operational conditions.
