@ssethers I have bills, and spending 3-4 hours for an event with reviewing radio traffic, train movements, pulling manuals and engineering plans eats into time I could be doing other tasks including time w/ my family.

Uhhhhh, I could’ve sworn that’s an emergency intercom to contact the operator…
Emergency Trip Stations are located every 800’ along the right of way (trackside) to bring down third rail power in an emergency.

Looks like @WMATA learned from this week's mechanical problem/rail incident/train collision. Notice they didn't call the bus fire a "mechanical problem" or a "bus incident". They explained exactly what was happening and how it was being handled. That's progress. @wmataGM #wmata

@kevinamezaga @tomroussey7news @wmata There’s nothing to correct. The system can do everything (except PTC on non revenue equipment) tomorrow. Leadership has to let the system run the way it was designed to. CBTC is great, until you carry the same behaviors from today w/ new tech.

The union representing 8000+ Metro employees is urging Metro's board to vote against a Red Line plan that calls for full automation of trains to the point where no operator would be needed. The president of ATU Local 689 sent this to board members ahead of Thursday's vote. #wmata

NTSB investigators arrived on scene at Metro Center starting just after 2 a.m. to begin documenting the crash scene and collecting perishable evidence. This is the first step in our investigation, and it is too early to determine a probable cause or rule things out. Updates on the investigation will come from the NTSB.

As of 12:53PM, 4/22/26 @dcfireems has turned everything @ L’Enfant Plaza back over to Metro - expect them to resume operations on 🔵🟠🟡🟢⚪️ lines shortly.

This report of smoke occurred at 12:28P & was the result of a set of burning brakes on car 7428, one of the cars involved in the Metro Center collision overnight and was in the process of being towed to a rail yard. The rail car mechanic aboard was able to extinguished the fire

@tomroussey7news Unless Metro finds a way to include roadway maintenance equipment (like the one involved in this mornings collision) with positive train control - there’s no way the board or WMSC should green light the project

Metro‘s board expected to vote Thursday on budget that includes plans to make the Red Line fully automated to the point where trains could run without operators. Platform screen doors would be installed at Red Line stations. Expansion to other lines would depend on funding #wmata

@AdamTuss @nbcwashington Having reviewed the documents published for this and in light of the collision, my recommendation would be for @metrorailsafety NOT to endorse this plan UNTIL Metro can include a way to implement positive train control that includes roadway maintenance equipment (RMM)
