@Newsweek @adampiore You could have a headline to help the public but you chose sensationalism. You could write that this kid already gets vaccines but instead you have a photo of a kid looking scared. You could point out that health experts are parents too instead your “news” magazine is now fiction

The risks of COVID for kids may be higher than previously believed. The virus is now 6th or 7th leading cause of death in children. But many parents are reluctant to get them vaccinated—even as FDA approval seems imminent. Read more: newsweek.com/2021/11/05/cov… ✍️@adampiore

@JayChakrabarti @ashishkjha Not “they are holding back our progress” stated like that is shifting and giving blame. It is more “we” collectively need to use data to develop and apply tailored strategies to different cohorts. Roll out (e.g. access & communications) is not one size fits all.

@ashishkjha Excellent Dr. Jha! You should be on Sunday’s Face the Nation, Meet the Press, This Week, 60 Min. etc shows to tell them exactly what are you showing here. Basically poor, uneducated people are getting less vaccines, & they are holding back our progress! We need to overcome that!!

Tempting to look at vaccinations in US by states And it makes sense: states have a lot of control over vaccination sites, outreach, etc But there's ton of variation within states So let's talk Massachusetts, a super high vaccination state Its a tale of two cities Thread

"When we don't have the relationships ahead of time, we don't have the trust." @sudipsparikh on building public trust in science. Scientists need to be on the PTA, on the school boards, woven into their communities so their shared values are seen. #pewtrend @pewtrusts

This is "science's finest hour." How do we use it to help the public better understand the process? "The speed at which the vaccine was developed was... decades of investment in research on mRNA, on viruses..." @Marcia4Science, president of @nas in @pewtrusts panel now....
AAAS@aaas

Starting now! @pewtrusts explores how scientists can build trust with the public and how the lessons from the pandemic can change the practice of science for the better. Panelists : @KrofahEsther, @Marcia4Science, and @sudipsparikh Watch live: pewtrusts.org/en/about/event…

The “thing” we couldn’t necessarily predict & plan w/ this pandemic was the virus type itself. We can prepare for social/health crises thru funding infrastructure for public health & biomed research. The speed of covid vaccine development was due to previous investments #PewTrend

This “...we must ensure that funding is being put into the system we want, not just the system we have...” Need an innovative natl’ #mentalhealth strategy that includes schools, industry & community. Otherwise we will see rise in crises like opioid use. @miller7 #publichealth
Ben Miller@miller7

An equitable #mentalhealth system will not be built overnight. It requires sustained investments, oversight, leadership and a commitment to enhancing equity. Now is the time to build the system our country needs. publichealthfunding.org/blog/2021/4/9/…

#COVID19 and other stressors can increase the risk of relapse for those with #opioid use disorder. Easing restrictions on prescribing @US_FDA-approved medication, like the MAT Act outlines, can help ensure patients receive treatment. pew.org/3q7ahux
