Sunday musing: A friend raises a good point: why do we need 4 days @ECISVEEP after final voting for counting to begin? Think about Kerala and Assam: EVMs have been kept in strong rooms for almost 4 weeks. Doesn’t happen in any other part of the world.

@ihailmyindia The ppl in the rural areas know that they cannot tell anything against the ruling party. there. Violence and mobbing for every issue, has become a symbol of Bengal. Mamta has taken that to the next level of opposing everything pertaining to governance n action on corruption.

I’m not sure about the May 4th Bengal election results. But as a non-Bengali, watching videos online where people are literally scared to say whom they voted for, it just made me realise how glad I am that I’m not from a place where basic freedom of expression feels like a luxury. I know some Bengalis will get offended, but that’s genuinely what it looks like. Whether you deny it or not, the political intimidation is visible on people’s faces. What’s even more annoying is the “self-righteous” acting, especially from those coming from strong backgrounds or not even living in the state, making statements like “we are not Bihar, UP or Manipur.” Like, do you even look at your own situation before saying this? At least people from other states accept their flaws. But here it feels like constant pretending, as if everything is fine and the state is somehow above criticism.
