This is 18-year-old Michael Robinson, a Black teen who was brutally attacked by a group of white teens outside a movie theater in Simi Valley, California. Video shows the group chasing him down, punching and kicking him, and shoving his head into a trash can while screaming racist slurs. He suffered a concussion, chipped teeth, and severe bruising. While the five attackers were initially cited with misdemeanors and released, it sparked widespread outrage, community pressure and a thorough investigation led the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office to upgrade the charges to felony assault and hate crimes. In late 2025, three of the minors formally admitted to the hate crime and assault charges. They were sentenced to up to 270 days in a locked juvenile facility, followed by electronic monitoring and mandatory anti-hate and restorative justice programs through the Anti-Defamation League. Two other teens involved faced separate charges. Despite the horrific hatred he endured, Michael’s resilience shines through. He publicly stated, “I forgive them, but there are consequences to your actions.” No child, no human should ever have to endure this level of hatred and violence. Prayers for Michael’s continued healing, and a reminder that true justice requires persistent accountability. 🙏🏾
